The battle for the next-generation of gaming continues as Peter Moore tells ITMedia of Japan that Microsoft could still develop a Blu-Ray Disc Drive for the Xbox 360, if the HD-DVD doesn’t become the favoured media storage device.
After recent news of Microsoft’s external HD-DVD drive being developed for the Xbox 360, Peter Moore, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division of Microsoft Corp. [That’s a mouth-full! -Ed], stated that if Blu-Ray becomes the favoured media storage device, than Microsoft could still develop an external drive for it.
Microsoft are backing the HD-DVD discs, whereas Sony have backed the Blu-Ray disc storage. Sony seems to have more faith in their choice than Microsoft. They have a Blu-Ray disc drive incorporated into their Next-Gen Console, the Playstation 3, whereas Microsoft have opted to have their HD-DVD drive external to the 360…just in case it doesn’t “take off”. Not only that, but Microsoft are covering their backs with the statement mentioned above about a possible swap to Blu-Ray if it becomes the most popular.
Only time will tell as to who wins the Next-Gen battle, but Sony definitely seem the more confident!
