After news broke out of a recent ratings submission for a game titled Wing Commander, many fans of the old space shooter were giddy at the knees of the thought of the match making of the Wing Commander Franchise and Xbox Live Arcade. EA have now held their virtual hands up and issued a press release confirming that their second Xbox Live Arcade title, Wing Commander Arena is in development for the Xbox Live Arcade.
Wing Commander Arena will offer the largest multiplayer experience on the Xbox Live Arcade with up to 16 player space battles, as well as single player, multi-team, multiplayer free for all and multiplayer duel modes.
Customised space craft is also on offer in this game and we are promised a game that will appeal to both long-time fans of the franchise and those that want a quick melee fix. Without any screenshots we are unsure whether the old 2D pixel sprites from the past will be present in Wing Commander Arena or if they will go with the latter Wing Commander Privateer 3D route, we will no doubt find out soon enough. Wing Command Arena is due for release in Summer 2007
Should Wing Commander Arena be the old 2D pixel version or the more recent 3D variety? Let us know your views in our comments area below.
