80GB PlayStation 3 releases in Europe next month

Sony previously announced the 80GB model would be dropping to $399 over the pond and now President of SCEE, David Reeves, has confirmed that the 80GB PlayStation 3 will be released in Europe next month. The news came at SCEE’s press conference in Los Angeles as part of E3.

The new model will be priced at £299 (399 Euros) on the 27th August. Reeves confirmed that the 80GB model will replace the current 40GB one and denied the old model would be getting a price drop. “Please do not ask me if we’re going to go down in price for the 40GB because I will give you the answer, the answer is no. This has been planned by Kaz [Hirai] for months. There are very few 40GB models left – especially in UK. We predict we’ll be out of stock by the time we launch.”

If you can wait an extra month for a PlayStation 3, SCEE will also be “doing promotional bundles from the middle of September to the end of December at various prices”. I know which bundle I’m waiting for *cough* LittleBigPlanet *cough*
