3D Realms, who produced last year’s 360 title Prey and who’s most famous work is the Duke Nukem series, have announced their newest project in conjunction with Recoil Games, who are led by Remedy Entertainment cofounder Samuli Syvähuoko.
Earth No More is based in a small New England town when a mysterious virus breaks out caused by man’s abuse of the Earth. You play as a currently unnamed man who is joined by four of his friends, each of whom have their own backstory, motivations and secrets. Game Informer, in which the game is revealed, says you’ll see “real character growth” as you progress.
Taking after Half-Life 2, Earth No More features no cutscenes. There will be an in depth conversation mechanic that the developers say will rival Mass Effect. The entire story can be played in co-op and players can take over as enemies much like forthcoming PC title The Crossing.
Earth No More is due out on Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime in 2009.
