2K defends DLC featured on disc

2K has defended its decision to charge for its latest DLC which appears on the disc itself.

It follows an eruption over the weekend from the release last week of the Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack which costs 400 MS Points (£3.40 in old money) or £3.99 on PSN.

After investigation, the 108KB download is purely an unlock key to the content that features on the game disc. The content included extra challenges, two new characters and weapon upgrades.

A spokesperson for 2K said:

“The way our engine and game structure works is that people need to have the exact same content for people to play together. One of the challenges with post-launch content for MP is that it can split the player base, and we want to avoid that whenever possible,”

He added: “For this content, creating the DLC package the way we did allowed for us to not split the player base – so whether you purchase the new content or not, you can still play with your friends.”
