So let us whisk you though our list of ‘oldies’ that we are looking forward to playing in this new year of gaming.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be the first time we’ll see of Capcom’s crossover fighting game on current-gen consoles. Exclusive to consoles, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will feature the same fast-paced fighting mechanics seen in earlier games of the series whilst also being accessible for newer players to the genre. Three-on-three tag team gameplay are promised, as is a robust plot that sees Doctor Doom and Albert Wesker joining forces alongside the greatest villains of the Marvel Universe. It is up to the heroes of the Marvel and Capcom universes to put a stop to their impending evil.

Last seen in 2006, its developers have been under the hood of this sequel for some time now. Taking place on the island of Ibiza as well as revisiting the previous island of Oahu, Test Drive Unlimited 2 will bring dynamic weather effects, day and night cycles, and vehicle damage to this sequel. A storyline will feature in this sequel that players will progress with in the game. Players will have to earn experience points in order to level up through the 60 levels. XP can be earned by completing competitions, making friends, joining clubs and racing one another; to discovering routes, taking location photos, collecting cars and buying houses, furniture and clothing. Reaching level 10 will allow you to revisit the Hawaiian island of Oahu which featured in the previous game and has been modified and updated. Expect a vast line-up of exotic cars as well as off-road SUVs, whilst motorbikes have been removed, for now. Up to 8 players can join in on mutliplayer sessions around the islands, whilst in clubs and shops up to 32 players can walk around and interact with each other at the same time.

Last seen in 2003 on the original Xbox, Deas Ex comes to current-gen consoles as a prequel to series. Taking place in 2027, some 25 years before Deus Ex, nanotechnological augmentation has yet to be developed and biomechanical augmentations are the current trend. You play Adam Jensen, a private security officer for Sarif Industries, a leading company that specialises in these augmentations. After witnessing an attack on the company Adam is seriously injured and is forced to undergo augmentation to survive. Whilst visiting the five futuristic cities around the world Adam soon unearths a conspiracy that will lead to the formation of UNATCO (United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition) from the original game. Expect a cyberpunk world full of future-tech and weaponry that will help with Adam’s combat, stealth, technology and social skills to further his goal in uncovering this conspiracy.

Expected release date : April 2011

In 2011 the Mortal Kombat franchise will see its first conscious effort in creating deeper gameplay that will not only appeal to the more dedicated gamer but also fighting fans in general. It will be the first title in the series to include 3D graphics with a 2D style of gameplay, an approach recently seen in Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV titles. A story will be carried through the game, which continues from the events that took place in the game’s 2006 title – Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, however the story will then return to the same period as the first three titles. Expect the usual over-the-top violence, with over fifty fatalities, gameplay that will appeal to casual and hardcore gamers, feature-rich online modes, twenty-six playable characters including the character Kratos, from God of War, who will feature on the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

Expected release date : April 2011

It was 2007 since we last played as Ghosts. Now in 2011, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon returns with Future Soldier. The year is 2015 and the Ghosts are fighting an ultra-nationalist force that have taken control of Russia and are now attacking neighbouring countries, including Norway, Middle East and Asia. Just like in previous titles of the franchise, you take control of a four-man squad, each with their own skills and abilities. Sadly Future Solider is another game in Ubisoft’s line-up of 2011 titles that has slipped into their next financial year, which means we might be seeing this title much later in the year or even in 2012.

Expected release date : April 2011 – 2012

If you don’t know about this game by now, then you must have been living in a nuclear bunker for over a decade. Duke Nukem Forever has been in development since 1997, quite some time you might think, but the game’s development hasn’t been a smooth ride at all. After passing through many developers and game engines it is 2KGames and Gearbox Software who will see this game through to the finish line and a release sometime in 2011. Expect a lot of one liners from Duke, flushing of toilets, aliens with tentacles, slot machines, random weaponry and blood, lots of blood. A demo is planned prior to the game’s release, which if we toss a coin will be some time this spring, or summer, or maybe autumn or…

Expected release date : Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 2011

Tomb Raider returns rebooted in 2011. In the first of three proposed titles we join Lara Croft fresh from the academy, sailing on the Asian seas in search of lost relics. After being shipwrecked by an unforeseen storm Lara is separated from the ship’s other survivors and is washed ashore on an island. Lara must now undertake physical and emotional torture by attempting to survive what the island throws at her. Stripped from any weapons, food and essentials, players must build up Lara’s physical abilities or obtain the necessary equipment to explore new areas of the island and advance in the game. In this reboot to the franchise expect a whole newer, mature and darker treatment to Miss Croft and also the game as a whole.

Expected release date : Q4 2011

Our favourite bald-headed, clothes-stealing, barcode-tattoo-wearing Agent 47 is rumoured to return in Q4 2011 (at the earliest) in Hitman 5. This game is yet to be officially announced by its proposed developers IO Interactive, or by its publisher Edios/Square Enix, so details on this game are as hidden as the bald-headed fella himself. Online retailer Play.com has the game set for a 28th November 2011 release so we are pretty certain that we will see Agent 47 come out from the shadows at this year’s gaming expos in a few months time.

Expected release date : Q4 2011 – 2012

We are certain that we will be hearing more about Max Payne in 2011. Whether we will see game released this year is unknown, as the game has slipped from its scheduled 2009 release and into a 2011-2012 release period. In Max Payne 3 gamers will see a new chapter in Max Payne’s life. A few years older, more beaten and cynical than ever. Max has left New York behind and has drifted from bad to worse. Now working in the private security sector for a wealthy family in the new city of Sao Paulo. In this story Max is double-crossed and so begins to search for the truth and a way out of the situation he is in. Expect the return of the old bullet time system with a newly added twist, an older and tarnished Max, plenty of dreamy sequences and a lot of explosive, gun-fuelled carnage.

Expected release date : Q4 2011 – 2012
