Anonymous Say PSN Downtime Isn’t Them

The hackers group Anonymous have come out, amid speculation on the cause of the current PlaystationNetwork downtime, and said that the cause of this on-going problem is not them.

Anonymous released the following statement, “While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves AnonOps was not related to this incident and takes no responsibility for it. A more likely explanation is that Sony is taking advantage of Anonymous’ previous ill-will towards the company to distract users from the fact the outage is actually an internal problem with the companies servers.”

Despite Anonymous saying that it was not caused by them you have to wonder what Sony is dealing with. Patrick Seybold the Senior Director of Corporate Communications at Sony has revealed that the reason is due to an “external intrusion.“

What that intrusion is has yet to be revealed although he did go on to say the following, “In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.“

Console Monster will keep you updated on the situation.
