Microsoft denies ‘one million’ gamers banned from Live

Microsoft has denied that ‘millions’ were banned from its Xbox Live service, prior to the launch of Modern Warfare 2.

As we reported the other week, a handful (we’ll stick with that word for now) of gamers were banned for pirating and using illegal modifications.

However Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox Live, denied reports that one million consoles were banned from the service.

Talking to VentureBeat he said:

“We didn’t release the number. I cannot explain to you why people would think it was a million people. It wasn’t a million people. Check the veracity of that claim. It was one news source.”

That news source thankfully wasn’t us. The BBC did repeat the claim though in an article and they should know better. Perhaps we can make something up and the BBC will report on it?

So were you one of the naughty ones, banned and banished from Xbox Live? Tell us below.
