THQ and Relic Entertainment are developing a third person shooter set in World War II. Now I know you’re all thinking Medal of Honor and Call of Duty, but lets not see if we can’t add “The Outfit” to that list.
The Outfit throws players behind enemy lines as they battle the Nazi’s in their own backyard through a variety of missions. In the game you can choose between three playable squad leader personalities, each one with a unique style. There are 12 missions for you to get through and each one takes roughly an hour or more to complete. In each mission you have two squads and you can position each squad on the map to give a strategic advantage over your enemy or put them together to create on hell of a fighting machine. There are strategic objectives for you to complete in the game, but there are also side missions for you to complete to acquire extra points.
The missions you undertake range from the usual reconnaissance and rescue to the good ol’ search and destroy. As you go through the missions and complete them you gain action points by killing Nazi’s or blowing up buildings — or more worrying, being shot at! These can be used as soon as you’ve got them, for just about anything, from upgrading your arsenal to calling in an air strike. As long as you’ve got enough points you can even get a tank dropped down for you to blow things up. Be aware however that the Nazi’s can call in reinforcements. When you think you’ve just beaten all the Nazis a plane hurtles above your head and a load of Nazi’s parachute down to say hello! Practically everything in the game is destructible from buildings to bridges, all with real physics and damage modelling.
When you die in the game there’s no need to worry, all that happens is a screen comes up for you to choose another squaddie or to play as your fallen soldier again. There doesn’t seem to be a limit on ammo either, which is somewhat worrying for your enemy if you have rockets!
The graphics in the game are typical Xbox 360, totally awe inspiring. The soldiers look real, the landscapes are vast and overall its a well rounded package. Naturally the game supports High Definition TV’s and is 5.1 Dolby compliant, so expect to be immersed in the action as you play through the missions.
The multiplayer mode looks as interesting as the singleplayer campaigns because you can choose to play with or against your friends. Up to eight players can play on Live, with modes ranging from co-op to versus.
The game is set for a release of early 2006 and the team at 360Monster believe this could be one of those special titles that is a must have for any Xbox 360 owner.
