Wii 2 will be a long way off

I’ve never been a big fan of the Wii. There are only a few titles I like and too many overpriced mini games for me to really consider a purchase yet. Another big put off was the fact the system felt like a game cube with motion control. I could only hope they would release a new version of the console with a hard drive and higher processing power for me to consider purchasing.

Sadly any rumours that spread a few months ago have been killed off with Reuters interview with Reggie Fils-Aime (Nintendo of America President). The whole interview boils down to the fact that the Wii is doing so well currently so why fund another console when the current one is doing so well.

“We will consider the launch of new consoles when we have got great new entertaining ideas that can only be done with a new console. As we sit here today the Wii console has a long run ahead of it, (the DS too). At some point we will launch the DSi here in the Americas. So as we look at the near term for us it’s all about maximizing the opportunity with the (Wii and DS).”

Well if I can’t get an updated Wii then I’d love to see some price cuts on the console. Seeing that the Xbox 360 arcade is getting cheaper by the day and offers a better multimedia system for your money (i.e. it plays DVD’s), Nintendo could see it’s customers getting bored of the gimmick and moving on.
