Valve Responds To Fan Outrage

With the numbers of people supporting the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott swelling, Valve have gotten into gear and put together a response to the widespraed criticism they are receiving for their announcement of a sequel to Left 4 Dead this early after the release of the first game.

Valve’s Gabe Newell: “Doing a sequel in one year is new for Valve. But providing ongoing support for our titles after the initial launch isn’t – it has been part of our philosophy since Half-Life was released ten and half years ago.”

Valve have blown a hole in the Boycotters’ arguments, defending their position on LFD2.

Continuing, he vows further content for the first game; “In addition to the recently released Survival Pack, we are releasing authoring tools for Mod makers, community matchmaking, 4×4 matchmaking, and more new content during the coming months for L4D1. We also agree with our customers that there needs to be an interoperability plan for players of L4D1 and L4D2, as multiplayer games are driven by the cohesiveness of their community.”

These should settle some of the disquiet within the L4D community and all we can do now is wait and see what happens. Personally, I can’t wait for L4D2!

Sam has been unable to peel his bloodshot eyes and RSI-ridden wrists from the world of gaming since he was first introduced to it, like all good junkies, by his Grandad. From those early days of MegaDrive sweetness, bashing through the throngs of enemies on Shining Force II, his love of all things games has extended upwards and outwards onto a variety of platforms. You can either believe that spiel, or get the real scoop and know that his spaceship actually crashed here some years ago and he is currently incognito as a games writer for Console Monster.
