Square Enix boss says Final Fantasy “greatly damaged”

In a recent press conference in Tokyo, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada conceded that the Final Fantasy brand had suffered somewhat in recent years.

Speaking specifically of Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix’s universally panned forray into an already insanely competitive MMO universe, he shared the following: “The Final Fantasy brand has been greatly damaged.” He went on to insist that support for the game would be continuing, and that new patches were on the way.

Square Enix has had a tough time trying to translate their offline RPG prowess into an online formula for success, but remains faithful in Final Fantasy 14, to the extent that they’re willing to redesign the entire experience. You’ve got to wonder just how much of these statements of intent will carry through, especially with so much buzz being generated around Final Fantasy XIII-2.
