Sony have kicked off this year’s E3 (before it’s even started mind you) with an announcement that will prick up the ears of gamers who are still considering in purchasing the premium priced console.
From the beginning of August, Sony will be introducing a new PS3 package featuring a 80GB hard drive and a full copy of MotorStorm thrown in to the mix. The retail price of this package will cost our US cousins $599 (£297) yet no price point has been mentioned for us here in Europe until an expected announcement this coming Thursday. SCEE have stated that this Euro announcement will not be part of the Sony keynote on Wednesday [very odd – Ed].
With this bundle and price soon to hit US stores worldwide, what of the current models still filling retailer’s warehouses? Well, Sony continues to announce that the price of their current 60GB package will be reduced to $499 (£247) effective immediately in North America.
The bigger hard drive, although not as substantial as the the 360’s largest available drive of 120GB, promises to give… “players more of an opportunity to take advantage of all the downloadable games and trailers on the PLAYSTATION Network, including the content from our forthcoming download service which will include videos, movies and other entertainment content.”
Stay tuned this week when we will let you know more of what price cuts are in store for us in Europe.
