Path of Exile 2 Launches 1.0 Version on 11 December with Free-to-Play Access

Grinding Gear Games has announced that Path of Exile 2 will officially exit early access and launch its 1.0 version on 11 December 2026. The update marks the game’s full release and transitions it to a free-to-play model, dropping the Founder’s Pack purchase requirement that has been necessary to access the early access build.

The launch on 11 December will be available on PC as well as PlayStation and Xbox platforms, where the game has been playable since early access began. This release date was revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, confirming a timeline that follows closely after the November ExileCon convention.

New Content and Campaign Completion

The 1.0 update introduces a new playable class, the Duelist, which expands the game’s melee options. Designed for aggressive combat, the Duelist is the first sword-wielding class in Path of Exile 2 and can also equip shields. Additionally, the game will include the final two campaign Acts at launch, completing the narrative experience begun in early access.

Grinding Gear Games has also initiated a registration campaign leading up to the release. The campaign offers community-wide rewards that increase in value based on the number of sign-ups, with items such as an in-game pet offered as collective unlocks.

Impact on Console Players and Early Access Performance

Path of Exile 2 initially entered early access almost two years ago, with versions available on PlayStation and Xbox alongside PC. Early access saw strong player interest, evidenced by long queue times at launch as millions engaged with the game. The removal of the Founder’s Pack paywall and move to free-to-play will open the game to a wider audience across all supported platforms.

According to Eurogamer’s early access review, the game’s combat system offers a challenging experience reminiscent of Soulslike titles, distinguishing it within the ARPG genre. The 1.0 release is significant in delivering the promised full campaign and expanding class variety.

Players interested in Path of Exile 2 can prepare for the full launch on 11 December, when the game will be free to play and complete on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
