New 360 Chip to Combat Overheating

According to Dean Takahasi of the Mercury News in San Jose has stated that Microsoft have developed a new chipset for the Xbox 360, codenamed “Falcon”, in order to combat the well documented issues that the Xbox 360 has with overheating.

The new chipset includes an IBM processor and AMD/ATi Graphics chip, as with the chipset currently in the Xbox 360 console. However, this new chipset has been manufactured in a 60-nanometer production process as opposed to a 90-nm process in previous chipsets.

As well as reducing the chance of the console overheating, the chipset is also cheaper to produce, meaning a price reduction is more likely. Expect some sort of announcement during Microsoft’s E3 press conference with takes place on Wednesday at 4.30am BST.
