Microsoft cuts jobs, first casualties revealed

Microsoft announced yesterday their decision to drop approximately 5,000 jobs for the first time in its history. The news comes after the company’s second quarter revenues totalled $16.6 billion, rather than the $17.3 billion they were expecting. Steve Ballmer announced that 1,400 of the 5,000 were to be cut immediately though there was no mention of the Xbox 360 division of Microsoft being affected.

Unfortunately, through the power of social-networking site Twitter, it appears at least two Xbox 360-based Microsoft staff are now unemployed. Chris Paladino and Nelson Rodriguez, both of whom were involved in the recently closed-down GamerScore Blog, have both ‘tweeted’ informing their followers they were out of the job. Paladino simply posted: “Is a casualty” whilst Rodriquez saw the slightly funnier side of things asking “what happened to the [Achievement Junkie] feed. Seems like it disappeared.”

On behalf of the team at Console Monster, we would like to wish both Chris and Nelson good luck in their future career. You can keep up-to-date with all things Console Monster by following us on Twitter.
