Goldeneye was expected…..now dead!

You may remember a couple of days ago that we reported a rumour on the release off Nintendo 64’s classic James Bond Goldeneye. Well that rumour was apparently true until Microsoft could not strike a deal with the games owner, Nintendo.

James Bond’s shooter Goldeneye was expected to land on our Xbox Live Markteplace and was only a mere 2 months away from completion. 1up have reported that the Goldeneye port had been in development at Rare for several months and it was never intended as a remake. The Xbox Live Arcade version would have boosted the same graphics, maps and weapons from the N64 version, but with the crucial addition of online multiplayer over Xbox Live. Several characters would also have to be cut due to licensing issues.

Then 1up go on to say. “Unfortunately, the reason GoldenEye for XBLA died came down to money. Our source close to Rare said the conversion was a mere two months from completion, but Microsoft and Nintendo couldn’t agree on the financial side of things. The point of contention, as our source puts it: would Nintendo receive a one-time fee for the rights to the game, or a continuing cut of the XBLA revenues? The latter seems to make sense for everyone, but apparently it wasn’t that easy.”

So are you in distraught at the moment with the thought that Goldeneye looks unlikely to hit the 360 Arcade collection? Let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment below!
