Today Sony have announced details of Firmware 2.20. The biggest addition to the new update will be the inclusion of Blu-Ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-Live). This allows you to download video content, ringtones, games and more – offering users “the ultimate interactive film experience”, or so they say.
Along with BD-Live comes the inclusion of PS3 to PSP transfers, meaning you can copy photo and music playlists from your PS3 to your PSP.
If you’re excited about the Blu-Ray Disc Profile 2.0 inclusion, make sure you have an internet connection and 1GB of local storage to access it. Movies are scheduled for release next month.
Other new features in the update are:
> “Resume play” will enable PS3 to start playing a BD and DVD video at the point it was stopped, even if the disc had been removed.
> “Audio Output Device” will be a new Remote Play setting, enabling PSP to serve as a remote control for music played through the PS3.
> PS3’s Internet browser will be enhanced: Video files directly linked from a Web page will be able to be streamed, and the browser’s view speed will be improved.
> DivX and WMV format videos that are larger than 2GB will be playable.
> “Mosquito Noise Reduction” will be added as an AV setting in the control panel of the DVD/BD player for improved movie playback.
So when can you see this update? Well the exact release date is “TBC” but we’re told it’ll be late March… so any time in the next week or so.
