An Increase In The Cost Of LIVEing?

A market analyst from Wedbush, Michael Pachter, seems to be under the impression that all us fine gamers are firmly under th giant corporate thumb of the big MS. While it’s a cosy thumb to be under, what with all its advancements in gaming technology and glimmering cache of class A titles, I wouldn’t go as far as saying I am taken so much by the ‘soft, that I’d pay double what I am doing for Xbox Live.

Taking our gold and giving us…GOLD?

From Pachter, “you really want to hook every gamer who has a 360, you want them to buy all their games on 360, play everything multiplayer, pay you 50 bucks a year so that, in a couple years, it’s a 100 bucks a year.” This “expert” seems to be suggesting that we are all a captive market and that now we’re all securely in Microsoft’s fold, we won’t raise a baa or even a bleat if they choose to raise the price.

Personally, I doubt Microsoft would even consider significantly upping the cost of Live, espescially considering the juciy free goodness of the PSN. If they did, however, I think it would mark the beginning of a virtual strike, with all the servers emptying and thousands of sun-shy gamers crowding onto the streets.

Oh gamers, what would you do? Could this be St. Petersburg 1917 all over again? Your thoughts, please.

Sam has been unable to peel his bloodshot eyes and RSI-ridden wrists from the world of gaming since he was first introduced to it, like all good junkies, by his Grandad. From those early days of MegaDrive sweetness, bashing through the throngs of enemies on Shining Force II, his love of all things games has extended upwards and outwards onto a variety of platforms. You can either believe that spiel, or get the real scoop and know that his spaceship actually crashed here some years ago and he is currently incognito as a games writer for Console Monster.
