Today’s Front and Center: Sidegrading and Other Fortnite Updates
Getting better weapons in Fortnite can be quite a hassle. Thankfully, Epic has made a way to make this rather arduous task not only easier but also cheaper: sidegrading. If you want to know more about this new process, read more about it so that you can use it to the fullest. Also, check out the other key updates that came with Patch 11.40.
How to Sidegrade
As previously stated, sidegrading is a new upgrading system for weapons. And the best part is that it’s very affordable, as it’s only a tenth of the usual upgrade price. For example, if you sidegrade an Assault Rifle, it will become a Heavy Assault Rifle. Do note, however, that the end of result of sidegrading is a weapon with the same rarity as that of the original one. It’s a stark difference from the more traditional upgrading, which bumps up the rarity of the weapon as well.
All you need for this is an Upgrade Bench and a specific amount of the needed building material. It should go without saying that the higher the rarity, the more building materials you’ll need.
To help you out, here are the locations of Upgrade Benches:
- The Shark
- Frenzy Farm
- Dirty Docks
- Weeping Woods
- Southwest of Misty Meadows
- Near the most southeast point of the map
- Structure bordering Misty Meadows and Slurry Swamp
- The Rig
- Sweaty Sands
- West of Holly Hedges
One Heavy Comeback
Currently, only the Assault Rifle can be sidegraded. Whether other weapon types will be included in the future remains to be seen. If they do, players will definitely be happy with such a development.
Also, the fact that the Assault Rifle gets sidegraded to a Heavy Assault Rifle means one thing: the weapon type, after so long, is going to be released from the vault. This is a good sign, as this will give players more weapon variety.
If you joined the game after dangerous Fortnite Items like this were vaulted, then you should be excited, as the weapon belts out 46 damage per shot and has a huge magazine size. In fact, those are the very reasons it got vaulted in the first place. So in case it suffers the same fate twice, the best time to try it out would be now.
A Bit of On-the-Side Info
Sidegrading is just one of the many new features in Patch 11.40. And aside from the new cosmetics in the Fortnite item shop and bringing back the Heavy Assault Rifle, the update is also bringing not one, not two, but three new weapons in the name of variety as well. They are the following:
- Flint-Knock Pistol
- Shockwave Grenade
- Impulse Grenade
These weapons can be found in the Battle Lab and used in custom matches. They’re definitely worth the try.
The update has also fixed a few bugs, such as the Star Wars achievements disappearing from the Legacy timeline and quick editing causing players to be stuck in the particular mode.
Here are the other bugs that were fixed in the update:
- F key failing to enable proper movement even if the direction is mapped to it
- Crosshair of Bolt-action Sniper Rifle disappearing after falling to a hideout
- Remedy vs Toxin Challenge not tracking progress in certain bus stops
- Spectrum Contrail changes colours while moving
- FPS hitching and hitching issues on mobile platforms
- Mobile players stuck in the Select Fire Mode screen
- Console players being unable to complete the gifting process without Two-Factor Authentication Enabled
