Asteroids & Asteroids Deluxe Review
If you remember either Asteroids or Asteroids Deluxe, you will probably remember screaming at the gaming cabinet due to the impossible controls and, frankly, annoying flying saucer of doom. Well luckily for you, you can now scream at your TV all over again! Asteroids is just as annoying as it used to be. It was one of those make up your own story games, as all you did was shoot balls of rock.
The main aim is to shoot asteroids, which then break apart into smaller pieces, with your tiny ship, that controls like a puck on ice. To get you out of immediate danger you can use Hyperdrive, but frustratingly, you normally blew up when you reached the other end.
After Asteroids was created, Asteroids deluxe was formed. With the inclusion of the satellite enemy that tracked you down when shot and the replacement of the Hyperdrive with a shield, the game gave you more reasons to scream at the games cabinet.
In Asteroids & Asteroids Deluxe, both games have been given a makeover with a more 21st Century look. 3D Asteroids and rather pretty explosions. However, it is still frustrating to control the ship, thus causing you to die – a lot. If you want to re-live the old days, there is the option to play the original arcade games in all their glory.
The graphics in the updated versions do look rather good, but the game is just too frustrating to play for long periods of time.
