Batman: Arkham Origins Preview - Console Monster - Dedicated to the Core

At this year’s Eurogamer Expo, I got the chance to sit down and play Warner Brothers Montreal’s take of the Dark Knight. Batman Arkham Origins is the first game of the Arkham series and lets you play the origin story of Batman. It is Christmas Eve and there is something lurking about in Gotham City. One of the biggest enemies; Black Mask has placed a bounty on Batman’s head and has recruited 8 most deadly assassins in the DC universe to take our young Batman down.

The start of the demo allowed me to explore Gotham City in all its glory. Gotham is now ten times bigger in size than the other Arkham games. You can fully explore the city and do a lot of random crime events, but I wanted to get to see what was in store for the Dark Knight. Throughout my time playing the demo I had the chance to take down some loose bandits in the streets of Gotham, and soon I was on my first main mission to track down Black Mask, this lead me to my first investigation scene.

Out of the blue a police helicopter has been shot down and Batman must find out how this has happened. Using his evidence scanner Batman can now reconstruct the crime scene in real-time and allow the player to fast-forward and rewind the scene to find vital clues. Once I completed the crime scene I then knew who exactly was behind the helicopter crash and it was the mark of Dead Shot.

Continuing with the main mission I carried on tracking down Black Mask. I entered a building only to face more bandits, but this time got the chance to try out Batman’s new gadget; the remote claw. The remote claw allows you to shoot a projectile that will launch onto an enemy and then another projectile will shoot from that enemy to another, which all of this makes them both collide into each other.

The demo ended with a cut scene showing the Joker on a chair tossing up an apple and saying “Nice of you to stop by”.

Batman Arkham Origins is available on Xbox 360, PS3, PC this October 25th Worldwide.
