Bear with me while I try to recall the events of last night but one thing I remember quite clearly was there was a lot of alcohol…
Yesterday, Xbox held the Halo: Reach Premiere in London and I was lucky enough to get an invite and thank god I did because it was amazing! I didn’t get much hands-on time but there was plenty going on that I wanted to share with everyone.
Upon entering the stunning Victoria House, I was greeted by two Spartans who looked mighty impressive but standing next to them was a bunch of waiters with various alcohol beverages, can you guess which one won my attention? After grabbing a random blue drink, I proceeded to the main room where a stage was set up with 12 Xbox controllers, a large bar filled with even more drinks and a closed off area that we weren’t allowed to enter yet. I then spent time talking to a lot of really interesting people from the gaming industry until our host for the evening, Reggie Yates, took to the stage to entertain us.
To open, we were shown a montage video of all the Halo games that have been released up until now followed by the extended live action trailer that hit the web a few days ago. Nothing I hadn’t seen before but it was nice to see the crowd go nuts for Reach! Actually, they made more noise for the trailer than they did for the celebrities that came on stage next. Xbox had put together their own Noble Team for the event which was made up of, Rio Ferdinand, Jameela Jamil, Ben Cohen, Mr Hudson and Jason Bradbury and a chap named Lewis who earned his leader of Noble Team status by beating 800 other Halo players. They played 3 rounds against 6 of the best Halo players in the United Kingdom and not surprisingly they got slaughtered. Poor Lewis played well but when you have people who can’t spend most of their free time playing games it’s not a surprise that they lost!
Once the Noble Team got destroyed, the closed off area we were previously not allowed access to was opened and housed a ton of Xbox 360s that we were allowed to play Reach on. It only showcased the multiplayer side of the game but having played the beta for quite a while I didn’t spend too long playing the game, that and there were a lot of people who wanted to have a go so I felt bad sitting there for too long! You will have to wait for Console Monster’s review to hear more about the game!
The rest of the evening was spent enjoying the company of all the guests, playing some Reach here and there and drinking quite a lot of beer! I may not make it sound like much but I assure you it was one of the best nights I’ve had this year and I don’t see any other game’s premiere out doing what Xbox treated us to!
One lesson I learnt from last night however is if you intend to go to an event with an open bar then book a hotel room and don’t sit on a coach for 4 and half hours while feeling quite drunk! Bad times!
Oh, and only 4 days left until the game is released!
