Very early Sunday morning Spike TV hosted the 2009 Video Game Awards show. This was my first time actually watching the show live and now I understand why it's very much a casual affair. No one seems to take them seriously. We are highlighting the most important and relative awards for Console Monster, so no awards here for Wii or PC and such. Anyway, have fun arguing in the comments about who should of won what because here are the results and possibly your Xmas wish list.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Game of the Year, Best PS3 Game, Best Graphics
Uncharted 2 achieved a Monster Score of 95% in our review and pretty much across the board. There was no shock to see it take the Best PS3 game and Best Graphics awards but I was quite shocked to see the title grab Game of the Year. Not that it didn't deserve it, but my money was on Modern Warfare 2.

Modern Warfare 2 Best Shooter, Best Multiplayer Game
Hell Yes! Scoring a massive 96% on our Monster review, Modern Warfare 2 is one of the best shooters for 2009, let alone best multiplayer. In the first week of release, I pumped over 60 hours into MW2's single and multiplayer campaigns. The game is a must have for FPS fans. Better yet, that damn Javelin glitch has finally been patched. Well done Infinity Ward!

Rocksteady Studio of the Year
This was a total shock. I am so happy Rocksteady took this award. The seemingly new studio released Batman: Arkham Asylum this year which we gave a 90% score as well as putting them on the map. The second game has also been announced but more on that in the reveals post. I am glad to see a British Studio take the award and I hope their next project is as fantastic as the last.
Other nominees: Infinity Ward, Naughty Dog, Valve

Flower Best Independent Game
Need to relax? Then check out Flower, one of PSN's finest. it scored a Monster 90% in our review. I have never played Flower before but according to the guys at Xbox World 360, "Flower needs more guns, skateboards, and Tom Clancy." I think we can all disagree with that statement, sore losers!
Other nominees: ‘Splosion Man, Osmos, Trials HD

Left 4 Dead 2 Best 360 Game
While I can't 100% agree personally with this award (*cough* Batman should have won *cough*), Left 4 Dead 2 is a great co-op shooter for the 360 with a massive fan base. We gave it a 89% in our review. If only it had more Zoey...
Other nominees: Batman: Arkham Asylum, Halo 3: ODST, Forza Motorsport 3

Street Fighter IV Best Fighting Game
An obvious choice, Street Fighter is one of the biggest fighting franchises in gaming today. SF4 scored a mighty Monster 95% in our review. Of course, we can't forget that Super Street Fighter IV is on its way to consoles in July. I am sad to see Soul Calibur 4 didn't even get nominated however.
Other nominees: Blazblue: Calamity Trigger, Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, Tekken 6

Assassin's Creed 2 Best Action Adventure Game
I am so happy to see Assassin's Creed 2 win this category after awarding it with a Monster 90% score in our review. AC2 just seemed to do everything right this time around. With Ezio being as delicious as ever, you can't help but fall in love with the Italian Renaissance. We have yet to see what Ubisoft have planned for the DLC, just make sure you pick this up in time for Xmas.
Other nominees: Batman: Arkham Asylum, Brutal Legend, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Dragon Age: Origins Best RPG
Obtaining a massive 96% in our Monster review, Dragon Age: Origins is obviously an RPG to look out for. Bioware still holding onto the crown for western RPG creation. While we all patiently wait for Mass Effect 2 to get released, Dragon Age: Origins has enough DLC coming out to keep you occupied, oh and dragons too!
Other nominees: Borderlands. Demon’s Souls, Mario&Luigi: Bowsers’ Inside Story

UFC 2009 Undisputed Best Individual Sports Game
If beating the crap out of your opponent sounds like fun then UFC 2009 Undisputed is right up your alley. Admittedly, when I played the demo, I spent most of my time hugging onto the other sweaty guy. We gave it a Monster 90% though, so I am sure there is more to do than pushing manly bodies together.
Other nominees: EA Sports Fight Night Round 4, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, Wii Sports Resort

NHL 10 Best Team Sports Game
Sliding in in alongside other nominations is NHL 10, a game which going off our 89% Monster review is sure to keep you warm during the freezing Christmas season.
Other nominees: FIFA Soccer 10, Madden NFL 10, NBA 2K10

Forza Motorsport 3 Best Driving Game
Overtaking Need for Speed, Forza Motorsport 3 took the award for Best Driving Game. Petrol heads will be happy to hear Forza 3 achieved a Monster 90% in our review. This is certainly one of the best driving simulators on the market today.
Other nominees: Dirt 2, Gran Turismo, Need For Speed Shift

The Beatles: Rock Band Best Music Game
There wasn't an award for trippiest game at the VGAs. If there was, I am sure The Beatles: Rock Band would have been crowned. I suppose they are happy being awarded with Best Music Game instead. We awarded them 95% in our review, they must be doing something right if they are topping not only music charts but video game charts as well.
Other nominees: Dj Hero, Guitar Hero 5, Lego Rock Band

DJ Hero Best Soundtrack
With artists like Daft Punk and some of the most influential DJs taking a role in Activisions latest plastic musical commodity, DJ Hero must be sporting one sexy soundtrack. Which is no shock when it took home the award for Best Soundtrack at this years VGAs. We have yet to review Dj Hero, but I am sure we won't be disappointed.
Other nominees: Brutal Legend, Guitar Hero 5, The Beatles: Rock Band

HALO 3: ODST Best Original Score
*cough* Assassin's Creed 2 should have won *cough* Sorry, clearing my throat there. Halo 3: ODST took home Best Original Score. Personally I think this is up for debate, but you cannot deny the quality of the music being produced for a huge franchise such as Halo. Pulling in a respectable 80% in our Monster review, Halo 3: ODST is worth picking up if not just for the multiplayer disc with all the maps on.
Other nominees: Assassin’s Creed 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

South Park: Let's Go Tower Defence Play! Best Game Based on a Movie/TV Show
Don't look at me! I didn't chose the winner for Best Game Based on a Movie/TV Show. If I did, it would not have been South Park: LGTDP. We gave it a humble 65%, because it managed to make us laugh if not managing to immerse us in hard core Tower Defence play. I'd say Riddick should have taken the prize. What do you think?
Other nominees: Ghostbusters: The Video Game, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, X-Men Origins: Wolverine Uncaged Edition

Shadow Complex Best Downloadable Game
The games up for nomination in this years Best Downloadable Game category were all worthy of winning the award. Shadow Complex however triumphed with not only fantastic sales, review scores and with an award. I hope Epic are planning on releasing more XBLA games in the future. We loved it by the way, so make sure to check out our 90% Monster review.
Other nominees: Battlefield 1943, Fat Princess, Plants vs. Zombies

Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballard of Gay Tony Best DLC
I'm a little confused to see the only entrants are for GTA4 and Fallout 3. DLC was massive this year and it is a real shame that only 2 games seem to have noteworthy entries for the award. Gay Tony took the award for Best DLC which it certainly deserves after obtaining a cool 95% Monster review. If you can't decide between the two however, Rockstar Games has released both Lost and Damned and Gay Tony on a double pack in stores now.
Other nominees: Fallout 3 – Broken Steel, Fallout 3 – Point Lookout, Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned

God of War III Most Anticipated Game
When compiling my predictions for the VGAs, GoW3 and Bioshock 2 were the two I couldn't decide which would win. I wouldn't have been disappointed with any of the winners however, as they are all games I am personally excited for. God of War III took the award for Most Anticipated Game, which seems to fit in with PS3's Uncharted 2 taking in the GoTY award. Maybe 2009 is PS3's year after all. Plus we all love Kratos (I know you do, stop denying it), so more of him is never a bad thing. The European release date is set for March 2010.
Other nominees: Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2, Starcraft II
There you have it! Of course, there are still some awards we have not mentioned. Make sure you head to the official site to check out what we missed out on.
Think of a game more deserving for the award? Let us know in the comments who should of won and why.
