I can see the negatives and understand why some gamers are upset by this. That said, the Call of Duty franchise games are some of the most serious and involved games currently available. It seems this is a move to push that type of game play Even farther. It is a distraction to talk with friends while playing if you are not on the same mission with the same objectives and it gives friends the ability to give one another a heads up on what's to come. I like this move by Activision, it is not
their intention to upset the buyer only to make the game even more realistic.

Yes they should restrict that ish especially for game mode  S&D...I don't want teammate giving out my position or other teammates position in order for his friends team to win...believe me I hv seen this happen a lot not just on MW1 but also on W@W S&D...my teammate watches his friend who is on the other team defuse/plaint the bomb without doing anything to prevent it and they get the win or having to be in a building with UAV jammer on just waitin on this last player to come to me but for some reason they know the exact place to throw the grenade at...so yes they should restrict that ish!

There is another downside to the lack of xbox live party chat on Modern Warfare 2. Have you tried starting a game party with some of your friends only to find that once in the game you are no longer in the same game as your friends, only one or two of you made it in and the rest are split into different ones and you are now most likely in a team deathmatch with lets say Italians, you are restricted to party chat so playing as a team with people speaking a different language is impossible and since you are in game chat you can't communicate with the friends you were joining with to find out what happened?.
This sucks big time, Infinity Ward please sort this out, there was never a problem with Cod4 of 5 once in a game party with your friends you were in for good until you left or were kicked for lack of activity etc. even then you could talk with party chat to your friends you were in the game with to find out how long the game had left before you could rejoin at the lobby.
This week we have spent more time trying to get a game with our friends than actually playing the game, it annoyed us so much we have gone back to playing Call of Duty 4.
I would like to hear other peoples thoughts on this too, are you having the same problems caused by the change in party chat and game partys?
