Netflix coming to PS3 next month

Sony is to launch the Netflix service on PS3 from next month.

A similar service is already available for the Xbox 360, where members of the Netflix service can stream films and tv episodes straight to the console.

The announcement earlier today, now no longer means Netflix is exclusive to the Xbox 360. It'll cost no more for those already subscribed to the service to stream on the PS3.

Those who aren't members can sign up for $8.99 a month which grants you unlimited access to the latest films and telly content, streaming both to a PC and a console. That also includes physical DVD rental as well.

“The PlayStation 3 system has always been about more than just gaming, and it will soon be the only platform in the industry to offer consumers such a variety of convenient options for enjoying movies and TV shows,” said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA.

“Whether you want to watch content on Blu-ray disc and DVD, download it from the PlayStation Network’s video delivery service, or stream videos instantly from Netflix, the PS3 system is the only solution that offers it all.”

Those wanting to watch films in HD will need a Blu-rat streaming disc that will be sent out to Netflix members. This will allow the technology to run to access the online content and stream it over your connection at Blu-ray quality.

Of course, no such service is out in the UK, but we do have Sky Player to look forward to this week.

Would love a 360 netflix service in the uk but the Sky Player service is gonna be pretty good for me as a full Sky user. Can't wait.

2 everyone. Just ignore teels. He/she is a xbox fanboy who can't accept that ps3 can do anything except rrod. Ps3 can't break the record of xbox360 for having the highest failure rate. Teels is also keep bragging about blue ray will b obselete in 5 years. He/she just can't accept that it's not coming to xbox. Anyway, I'm not a ps3, wii o xbox fanboy. I'm all about pc.

Why can't you all grow up and acknowledge that each console has it's good and bad points? Many people own both consoles and there's no reason why you shouldn't if you can afford them.

Netflix blueray who gives a f..k has every forgot what a consol is meant to do is for playing games u f..king idiots. The fact is that the ps3 is it gets ok games every once awhile but but come on people have more fun on it. It gets way better games every year and let's face it your not gonna have much fun playing mw2 on psn is a piece is ***** and with gta tbogt, left 4 dead 2, mass effect 2, halo odst, halo reach, splinter cell, and on and on, the only thing for ps3 next year is god of war and what else. Yeah sure ps3 has uncharted but it's going to be forgotten with al this other better games comming out in a few weeks. It's all about the games and xbox 360 delivers every year sure it has it's prombles but it has the better games and online and that's all that matters.

do you have no knowledge of the ps3's upcoming exclusives? The ps3 has a whole mess of games coming out next year. It has the agent, last gaurdian, heavy rain, M.A.G, gran turismo 5, modnation racers. Every single one of them are completely new games while the 360 only gives you spin-offs or sequels. Left 4 dead 2, splinter cell conviction, and mass effect 2 aren't exclusives because they are on the PC! saying uncharted 2 will be forgotten is stupid because it is a huge contender for the game of the year. MW2 won't be ***** on the ps3. What facts do you have to prove that?

Ps3 is a joke. It seems to copy everything the 360 does and makes it twice as bad. I can't understand why any1 would buy 1. The games for this year have been so poor. while xbox has a gr8 lineup forza 3, halo ODST, left for dead 2, assasins creed 2, splinter cell conviction and the 2010 line up looks just as good. I'm glad I bought a 360!

how have the games been poor this year for the ps3? They had killzone 2, infamous,and uncharted 2. All of them were triple A exclusives. That's not poor. Halo odst was a double A title. Left 4 dead 2 is on PC so it's not exclusive. Assassins creed 2 is a multi platform game. And slplinter cell was delayed to 2010 and it's gonna be on the PC so it's not exclusive. You got it twisted. The 360 has had a bad year

Every1 is allowed their own opinion and while I don't like PS3 I know some people do. I just find the games on PS3 a bit bland. however I appreciate the fact the some people like different games to others ( however banjo kazooie nuts and bolts must be the greatest game in existance nobody I know didn't love it)
