Eidos Interactive have today confirmed that Lara Croft will be coming to Microsoft's Xbox 360 via downloadable episodic content which is the first time that a full-retail title will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace.

The game will come in four episodes with the first and second part being released in September with the third and fourth episodes to swing in to action shortly after.

Jane Cavanagh, Chief Executive for Edios has commented;

We have created this version of Anniversary specifically for digital distribution as episodic content. This is part of our strategy to grow our presence in online and digital distribution as we believe there are huge growth opportunities arising from this delivery format and we intend to capitalize on the increasing demand for digitally downloaded content. Lara has always been at the forefront of technology and this world first initiative with Microsoft really highlights that fact. Ultimately we also intend to make the title available at retail so that it reaches the maximum possible audience.”

George Peckham, General Manager of 3rd Party Publisher for Microsoft's Xbox Division has also commented;

“We’re continuing to break new ground in getting incredible gaming experiences in the hands of consumers. We’re excited to be able to deliver one of the most well-recognized franchises in video game history with Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary to our more than six million Xbox Live members worldwide in the form of episodic content.”

Tomb Raider: Anniversary has been critically acclaimed and is currently in pole position in the United Kingdom, Germany and France on PC platform.

While a Nintendo Wii version is currently in development their will also be a PSP version due sometime soon.

To be able to play Tomb Raider: Anniversary you will need to own a copy of Tomb Raider: Legend to access the downloadable content (DLC). Episodes will cost 600 Microsoft Points each (2,400 Microsoft Points for all four Episodes) although the Croft Manor Level will be FREE. Expect Themes and Picture Packs shortly.

We can't wait until Lara Croft bounces [careful -Ed] her way on to our screens this September. Let us know what you think by leaving your comments below.

"The game will come in four episode"
"Episodes will cost 2,400 Microsoft Points"

Currently MP cost 85p for 100.
So 24 x 85p = £20.40 - Then times that by 4 = £81.60 for the whole game.

This has to one big fat joke!!!!! Maybe a big fat mistake. I don't care what it is but that can't be right. Please someone tell me I'm adding up wrong here.

40 quid for data on a Hard Drive that you cannot back up? When* your Hard Drive breaks, you lose your game, great!

*When, not if - every HD on every PC will break at some point.

EDIT: @crashlock - article is incorrect, there will be 2 packs containing 2 episodes each.

EDIT2: Everyone below is quoting me at £40. I apologise - I misread an American article, it is indeed £20 for all 4 episodes.

Ah cheers Thos.

Even so £40 for this!!!!
I just got Oblivion from Play.com for £17.99. Then went to download the Shivering Isles expansion but found out they are asking £20 for it on the Marketplace!!! I'm beginning to hate MS approach to pricing. It's not flexing with the market. It's a download. It shouldn't be costing anywhere near high street prices. I appreciate It takes time and money to develop these games. But you have had plenty of time to streamline work-flows to get costs down.

Tomb Raider Anniversary shouldn't cost more than 1200 points. It's a download. Most people with common sense wouldn't pay £40 for this in a shop let alone for a couple of download packs. Utterly disgraceful. Why isn't 360 Monster criticising this ridiculous and insulting price tag?!

What a con!

£20-25 for PC and PS2 versions...that's including costs for discs, manuals, packaging, shipping etc. yet double that for DLC...the supposed cheaper way of buying games due to no 'extra costs' having to be accounted for.

They can shove it up their arse.

Just read up that Edios are planing to realise it on disc form later in the year. I don't understand the logic of doing a download version, it would take up HDD space. Its been out for the PS2 and PC for afew weeks now so i don't understand why it wasn't realised for the 360 then.

So many whiners.
2400 points for all 4 Eps. CHEAP. & you can play it without the noise of a disc turning, fast loading times, easy access,....
At Thos. When your hard Drive breaks you won't lose your game. It's connected to your Gamertag & your 360.
You better all edit your posts fast.
At Croft. They have to upscale (or something) it for HD televisions, which takes more time. ... Most 360 games come out after their PC release. Microsoft has a good quality control, which takes some time also. & there are some more reasons. Those who don't have a HD or not much space left, can buy the Disc version. Smart.

@dbpqdb
- So I can plug as many Hard Drives onto my 360 as I want and download the content I have paid for? Are you sure? I really don't know either way if this is true.

I agree 2,400 for four episodes is cheap, and its Tomb Raider always worth it.

@Thos
Nooo... Read carefully my friend.
It is connected to your gamertag & console. Not your HD.
Here goes. If you downloaded something you can ALWAYS (online & offline) play it on your console (as long as it stays the same console.).....
Gamertag - You can play as long as you are online. Even if you downloaded it on another one's console. But you have to be online. Sooooo
If you want,... you can buy a arcade game on someone's console with YOUR Gamertag (on his console)... You go home & you can play the FULL arcade game "for free" (or you can share the cost with your friend); as long as YOU are online. Your friend can play the game "for free" as long as it is the console which was used to download & pay the game. Easy.....

So nothing with your harddrive. Once downloaded it is connected to your (or friend) Gamertag & your (or friend) console.
As long as Microsoft doesn't fix this you can play cheap arcade games & such. Just make sure the console doesn't break. (still Msoft agrees to give some points sometimes, so you can download & connect it again to your new 360) Then only the gamertag can play online.
Phew..... Don't tell anyone......
