Console Monster News
Could this be another nail in the PS3's coffin?

Some rather interesting news hit our desk this morning regarding PS3 pre-prders. Yes I know this is a 360 site and no I haven't posted the news in the wrong place, but hear me out as all you Xbox 360 fans will be chuckling away once you read this.

It seems that consumers who want the new PS3 console from Sony will have to put a deposit down for it. Nothing new there, but think about this, to pre-order the Xbox 360 gamers had to put as little as £5 even £0 to secure their console. Well to secure a PS3 you will have to put down a £150 pre-order down, yes thats one five and zero.

Tommorows issue of MCV will reveal that Sony are currently having talks with retailers about setting up this £150 system to help with the Christmas rush. They say that the new system will ensure that console allocation will be fairly managed.

Sony have in fact confirmed that these talks will be taking place, but for more info check out MCV. Is this a revolutionary idea in the world of pre-orders,or is it another blow to the already unstable PS3? We'll let you decide that one.

it won't matter, the people that really want the PS3 will still buy it.

I don't see that as a problem....you're still paying the full retail price. If you pay part in advance does it matter whether it's £15 or £150?? I don't think so. :)

Well, I'm not really totally satisfied with my 360, many games have performance issues (mainly oblivion) and it overheats quite easily (luckily I use a fan next to it though).

Hopefully the PS3 will have more problems.

The 360 is the only next gen console available at the moment ! By the end of the year there are going to be allot of great games for it.The games alone can persuade a person to buy the console ,when people see the price comparison of both consoles and see that the xbox has all these great games ,they would have to be idiotic to pay the price of a ps3 with no games!

I dont hate sony in no way,but microsoft know how to do buisiness just a little bit more than sony ! If anybody is going to be wanting a ps3 it will be kids begging there parents for one for christmas! When the parents see the price of the ps3 compared to the 360 the obvious outcome is that they would buy the 360 instead!

I think it's probably quite clever. How many people are going to see a sign "Preorder PS3 here - £150" and be fooled into thinking that's the final price?

Plus by paying 150 now and 250 (or whatever) later the perception is that the cost is less.

And devoted Metal Gear Solid fans will want a PS3, and Final Fantasy fans. hmm i that it?

So, Sony gather interest on your £150 in their ban account for a few months, while you're out of pocket!
God Potential PS3 owners aren't that dumb are they?

You can always guarantee on Sony making you spend more money.

That's what the arogant sony bastards get.

I think they have done a £150 pre-order because it will stop all those people pre-ordering loads and then when theres a shortage sell them on ebay. "Ring any bells?" If microsoft would have done that then all those people making money on desperate gamers would not have been so bad!!!!!

I own almost every console from Atari and Intellivision up to PS2 and the 360. Even I will be passing on the PS3. It's just to much money. Add a game or two and another controller and I'm spending almost $900 (US)

Well, you'll probably end up buying one by the time the $2000 PS4 comes out.
