RE5 ‘Action’ controls to appeal to FPS crowd

UPDATE: Apparently there is no run and gun controls after all. Check this news story for more.

After the Resident Evil 5 demo was released the other week there have been a huge divide over the control system. From one end the more traditional fans of the series say that the control system is fine if not more refined while newer fans to Resident Evil find that not being able to move during combat is too frustrating.

I have been a huge fan of Resident Evil for many years but I do feel that the control system has needed an update. Well, Capcom have been keeping a secret from us all – There are 2 control scheme’s available in RE5. The more traditional stop and shoot that we are used to and an ‘action’ style which will appeal to newer audiences who enjoy Gears of War. This means you can walk and shoot at the same time, hurrah!

For something so simple it’s a huge improvement. Before I used to scream as I had to aim for head, take a shot, turn around and run away. Now I can aim for a shot, shoot and walk back at the same time!

Has this changed your mind about purchasing Resident Evil 5? Let us know in the comments.
