A Sony executive, well John Koller to you and me, has revealed that 14 million people have now got active PlayStation Network accounts.

Of course it has some catching up to do with Xbox Live, which is far far ahead, but nevertheless the stats are impressive as people make the plunge and purchase a PS3.

On the US PlayStation blog, Koller announced also that 273 million pieces of content had been downloaded.

It comes as the PS3 celebrates its second birthday in North America. Sony believes there are around 17 million PS3 systems worldwide right now and sales are up 100% on last year.

Have you had a PS3 since launch, or do you intend on purchasing one for Christmas? Tell us below.
