Sony’s alternative to the Xbox360’s lauded achievements is set to come online in the v2.40 firmware update. Details are a little thin on the ground presently, but it’s likely these will follow a similar vain to Microsoft’s offering, by rewarding the player for in-game heroic feats.

When Home eventually arrives, PSN users will be able to display their hard earn trophies in 3D virtual display cabinets, in virtual houses, to virtual friends; though these are reportedly different to the 2D variety that are due to make an appearance shortly.

At a yet to be announced release date, the new firmware will also deliver an in game XBM, a feature that’s been high on user’s request lists since the machine first launched.

In the interim, a v2.36 firmware update is due which addresses some system stability issues.

Marty has been gaming since the heady years of the ZX-81 and still owns most of the gaming systems purchased since those days, including the Atari 2600, ZX Spectrum, SNES, Jaguar, Dreamcast and GameCube. Being a collection junkie (or more accurately, hoarder), he buys more games than he can possibly play, far too many of which are still sealed in their packaging. Marty favours RPGs and Driving games when it comes to genres, and is possibly a little bit too addicted to Disgaea. When not gaming he’s out frightening OAPs on his motorcycle, clad in black leather.
