Microsoft Showcases New XBLA Games

Microsoft has used it’s pre-TGS press conference to showcase a number of newly announced (and a few previously announced) Xbox Live Arcade titles, many of which are being developed in Japan. Top of the order are the announcements that Ikaruga and Rez HD will be coming to the Live Arcade in early 2008.

Ikaruga was originally an Arcade title before coming out on Dreamcast in 2002 (Japan only) and GameCube a year later. The XBLA version was first rumoured back in February. The game has a big cult following and only 50,000 copies of the DC version were ever made. The game is a vertically scrolling shooter. Your ship can only be only damaged by bullets of the opposite polarity to your ship (so Black bullets can only damage your White ship).

Rez HD started out on Dreamcast and PS2 in 2002 (in Europe). The game is on rails shooter with a musical twist. The Xbox 360 version will include HD graphics and 5.1 Surround Sound. Both Rez HD and Ikaruga will be released in early 2008.

Other titles shown include Every Extend Extra Extreme, EXIT, Omega Five, Triggerheart Exelica, Castle Crashers, Braid and Schizoid.
