The latest rumor in the long running saga of will it or won’t it come to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is HMV a UK Retailer taking pre-orders for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on Xbox 360 platforms.

There has yet to be confirmation from Konami themselfs but HMV have put the releases date as 26th September ’08, six months after snake hits Sony’s Playstation 3.

Due for a simultaneous worldwide release early in 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is set in a war-torn future where huge conglomerates fight for supremacy using armies of hand-picked mercenaries. This battle-scarred arena is seen through the eyes of an older Solid Snake who has been charged with infiltrating a number of key locations across the globe, including the Middle East and South America.

Update: HMV Admit Mistake

HMV has admitted that the pre-order for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was a mistake.

A spokesperson informed GamesIndustry.biz that;

“In his enthusiasm, one of our online games team indicated that hmv.co.uk would start taking pre-orders for MGS4 on Xbox 360, when, in fact, he simply meant to ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform. We’re sorry to have caused such a stir – the oversight has now been corrected.”
