Light Shed On GTA Online Character Creation

Rockstar North president, Leslie Benzies, has shed a little light on GTA Online’s character creation system. With all the depth of features this section of the game promises to offer, and persistent characters, there was always going to be some fiddling to be done, in standard Rockstar fashion, great arrays of sliders have been eschewed in favour of something a little more…biological.

Inventive and steeped in more than a little of their trademark risqué humour, it’s hard to criticise Rockstar on this move.

‘I’ve always felt character creators in games to be a bit wacky, pulling the ears and noses to change the way they look seems wrong. That’s not how humans are made in the real world. Normally it involves a man, a woman, and some sexy time,’ says Benzies.

Makes you wonder who spawned this bad egg.

‘This is the basis of how we do it in Grand Theft Auto Online: Choose your mum, dad, and grandparents, then out pops your character. You spend time choosing your lifestyle, making choices about the kinds of things your character spends time doing, whether they spend more time partying or sitting on the couch or doing criminal activities than sleeping and being athletic – and your character is complete.’

Sounding undeniably funky so far, if a little hard to imagine, this could prove a very revealing take on character creation, also perhaps lending the Online play even more room for variation, which can never be a bad thing when you’re used to seeing everyone and their mother charging around customisable multiplayer game modes garbed in identical stupid cowboy hats and bright pink space boots. Either way, Rockstar must certainly be praised for their originality.
