License Migration Tool Released

Microsoft has released a license transfer tool to “transfer the licenses of all your previously downloaded content from your old console to the new one.” The new tool is a “simple two-part process” which allows players to use content downloaded on a previous XBOX 360 console offline, as well as online (such as the XBOX Live Arcade titles). You simply log into your Windows Live ID on, turn on your XBOX 360 console and sign in with the corresponding GamerTag and the XBOX Live Marketplace content licenses are transferred over.

Once they are transferred over, there is still a little bit more work to do. You simply need to select Account Management followed by Download History, then find the item and select Download Again. You’ll need to do this for every item which has been affected. The time this process takes depends on how much content you have. If like me, you’re hard drive is filled with XBOX Live Arcade titles, you could be doing it for quite a while… A “How-To” video guide of how to transfer the licenses and the start of the process can be viewed here.
