Final Fantasy XI Expansion Announced

Sqaure Enix have announced that an expansion pack for Final Fantasy XI Online will be released this winter. Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess is the forth expansion of the game that was first released on PS2 back in 2001. The 360 version was released in 2005 including all three previous expansions.

Details are scarce at the moment, however, you can watch the first trailer for the expansion here. PS3 owners hoping to get some FF MMO action will be disappointed to hear that the game won’t be coming to their console. Series director Koichi Ogawa told Eurogamer it would take between four and five years to port the game to PS3.

Italian and Spanish gamers will also be left out. Ogawa stated:
“It took us around a year and a half to add German and French translations to the game as it was only ever designed to display Japanese and English. Sadly we don’t have the time to do the same localisation job for Spanish and Italian users as there simply aren’t enough subscribers from those regions.”

Ogawa also said that while only between 10 and 20 people leave the game each month, “this is usually offset by newcomers”.
