5 Million 360’s Now Shipped
Microsoft’s latest financial report has revealed that the company has now shipped 5 million Xbox 360s, hitting the company’s target. 1.5 million units were sold pre-Christmas 2005. 1.7 million units were sold in the third quarter of the fiscal year and 1.8 million were sold in the three months leading up to June 30th 2006.
3.3 million units were sold in North America alone with Europe fairly far behind with just 1.3 million units sold. Only 400,000 units were sold in Asia. Microsoft also reiterated its belief that the company can ship 10 million units by time the PS3 and Nintendo Wii launch, however with the launch of both around 4 months away, this target seems to becoming more difficult to achieve. Microsoft also added a new ambitious sales target, namely, 15 million units shipped by the end of the next fiscal year in June 2007.
Despite the good sales, Microsoft’s Home & Entertainment Division suffered losses of $414 million, but still has healthy revenues of $1.14 billion. Microsoft as a whole suffered a drop in profits down from $3.7 billion to still huge amount of $2.83 billion.
