The Xbox 360 has regained its position as the second best selling console in the US behind the Wii and ahead of the PS3.

Price cuts have helped the console raise sales to 347,000 units during September. In August sales stood at 195,200. The price drop however has meant lower revenues for Microsoft.

PS3 sales stood at 232,000, up from 185,000 in August. However the Wii still continues to rule the roost and shows no sign of stopping with 687,000 sales in September.

“Compared to August, nearly all hardware systems realised an increase in unit sales in September,” Anita Frazier from NPD said.

“The price reduction on the Xbox 360 helped deliver a month-over-month unit sales increase for that platform of 78 per cent.”

However sales are down from last year with the release of Halo 3 last September contributing to high console and software sales.
