Anyone just watch the match?
Great game, we deserved it imo. Well done Micky Owen, back to his best tonight. Suprised he didn't give Defoe a run-out though? Anyways, Congrats The Lads! |

Greta result for england. I thought beckham had scorded with that header near end but a great save by some gay argentian keeper. "Football coming home, its coming home, its coming ,football coming home"

Im sorry, Crouch suxs. He's a striker, what are strikers for...Scoring goals...how many goals has Crouch scored for CLUB and nation...hmm let me count... none.
Granted, the game changed when he was on the pitch, but it had nothing to do with him. He was hardly involved. The bloke can't play football, and shouldn't be in the team. We know that sven is too much of a media follower mind, and so will continue to play the lanky git for *variation* Russell Clow |

Like Russ said, he didn't actually do anything. Especially involving the goals. Why did Sven even bring him on when he had a perfectly fit Jermain Defoe sat on the bench? At least he might have brought something to the team.
Crouch doesn't even deserve to be starting for Liverpool, never mind been in the England squad. But he didn't get boo'ed onto the pitch tonight, which was nice to see. Tonight's game, was a great game of football, something we haven't seen in a long while. I actually enjoyed sitting there tonight, in my warm front room, watching the game. Which hasn't happened in a few years. I am a massive football (in general) fan, and watch every game thats on tele. But, I must say, the game is starting to get boring. Other Sports such as Rugby League and Cricket are starting to improve, and soon will be up there with Football. They are, IMO more exciting to watch, and play. However, tonight's game made me look at it from a different angle. Good, exciting, action-packed game tonight, had everything. Well done to all. Bring on Germany '06! |

I think it's very short sighted to consider him that way, because his contributions are not as clear cut as scoring goals he is often dismissed as useless.
He has a mental affect on the other team when he comes on, just watch when crosses come in, players are drawn to him as he is the percieved dangerman, this cretes space for players like Owen to get on the end of the ball. He does it during normal play as well, just watch him and you can see he draws defenders away freeing up space. He also has great vision when he get's the ball, I don't know how many Liverpool matches you've seen but you can always see him putting through great balls into space. Of course he works well as a targetman, just look at when Rooney went on that little run toward the end before missing, it was Crouch who turned his man brought the ball down with his chest and squared it to Rooney. It was also him preventing Samuel from challenging Owen for the third goal. Of course being able to do things like this also helps: http://www.ultimatesaint.co.uk/media...uch_boro_a.avi |

Benj,
Although he has that effect at the moment, as soon as teams realise that he is really a pile of crap, they'll stop getting drawn to him, rendering him completly useless. In all honesty - Rooney Makes England, like Gerrard makes Liverpool. Rooney was involved in EVERY attack England made, ran at defenders, which they hate, and has an awesome finish. He has vision Far great than his age, and is already a Gasgoine like figure. Forget Crappy Crouch, Rooney is the man. Russell Clow |

I never tried to suggest Crouch was better than Rooney, I'm just saying that dismissing him as "crap" is foolish.

Sorry Benj, but I have to agree with Russ. You may see Crouch differently being a Southampton fan yourself. But he has been at more clubs in the past 3 years than pretty much any player.
His confidence is shot to **** with the lack of any goal in a white or red jersey. Some players without confidence can scramble in goals, such as Nistelrooy does. But Crouch is effectively useless without confidence, and if he doesnt get any by the end of the season, he'll be shipped straight out of merseyside. Hopefully with Benetiz who chose Crouch over Owen. Crouch was probably involved in just the one attack in this game, and I remember him being swarmed quickly and his height was not an advnatage as much as a hindrence to him. You say the mental effect he has on the opposition is huge, but Im with Russ, 2 more games like Argentina and the USA tour games he had, and all opponents will just think he is a player that cant do much. Not to mention them realising that to be honest, he couldnt head the ball if his life depended on it. Jermain Defoe is more involved, and he would get in the thick and thin and get a shot in that would either go in, or get a corner. Crouch would sit back waiting for Owen and Rooney to get the ball, then once he has possesion he knocks it away with his first touch. Sorry, but for a striker, he is no better than the likes of Bent, who should be getting England Caps, at least he has scored this season

IMO, he is behind Rooney, Owen, Defoe, Bent, Johnson, and once again imo, should be behind Emile Heskey.
Heskey I feel, should be given another chance in the squad, he has proved for Birmingham that he can score goals, and I reckon he can do it for England. Though it wouldn't be easy to get a game infront of Owen or Rooney. |

Had a bet with my mate today.
I said that Crouch won't score more than 5 goals all season for Liverpool. In all competitions. He, as a Liverpool fan reckons he will. Had a Fiver on it. @Benj - I doubt he will even be going to Germany (Or he shouldn't be anyway)

Sven's a bummer. Why does he always choose his FAVOURITE players.
He just goes with what the media (mainly tabloid newspapers e.g. Sun) say, and they speak out there arse. |

Picking Crouch for the England squad is foolish. I mean come on, the guys a joke, if your going to play someone just to stand around on the pitch and make the opponent laugh fair enough but I'd rather play someone who is England quality and can finish/dribble and everything a striker needs to do. Did you see him for the 2nd goal? Completely unmarked that say anything? Like we don't need to mark him he can't head for sh...
![]() And the 3rd LMAO He practically pushed Owen off the ball the headless donkey. He sucks.
