PS3 would sell 5 million without any Games

In a recent interview with gaming site CVG, Sony's Euro CEO David Reeves speaks on many matters regarding the PS3 where he admits key PS3 launch titles like Heavenly Sword will now appear in 2007 missing the November 17 launch day. He follows up this comment by saying "for the first time we are not going to go just for hardcore gamers". After that revelation he says Sony is "going to have a portfolio of social gaming" for the launch window and he believes Singstar and EyeToy an integral part of Sony battle plan for the PS3. He then admits both said titles will hit shelves "before Christmas."

Next he talks of Resistance: Fall of Man which he believes will be a launch title but then fails to mention any of the other 15 games Kazuo Hirai has assured gamers will launch with the PS3. After this the interview took a weird turn where Reeves says he thinks "[Sony] have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000" Following that he says "the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even it didn't have games."

We know Sony is popular with many gamers but that last line is a bit arrogant if you ask us...

Arrogant, but probably true.

The Playstation 3 for me, only has a few 'Killer' titles - with them all coming some way into its product cycle. These are Metal Gear Solid 4 (I think it'll come out for the 360 - we know it runs it fine). FInal Fantasy XIII is another 'Killer' but I'm still confused about what we are getting witht his at the moment so I'm hardly going to go out and buy a PS3 while waiting for it.
My PS3 purchase will come when it is lower priced (425 my rear end) and has the software to back it up.
I don't like to think of myself as rich but for a 17 year old I am quite well off due to having a good weekend job - but I still feel the ps3 is stupidly priced, and all my friends think so too.

i dont know what games il be gettin with my ps3 until they come out.

Just been on play.com. Found a little link describing the games for lauch and the prices. £49.99 and play.com normally knock a tenner of them, so they might be priced a the £60 mark. Expensive Blu-Ray.

So they want to target the social gaming market with an expensive machine, whereas Nintendo are targetting it with a cheap machine and a simple to use controller. Surely Sony aren't that stupid are they?

I'm so sick of you Microsoft fan boys. Your all like don't even mention PS3, we are all loyal MS fans. Bullcrap! I've got an Xbox 360, sure, graphics are nice, but I hate the controller, it's to small, and I hate how it over heats like a toaster! You know why PS3 won't overheat like the Xbox 360? Cause it's bigger! With a size of the old Xbox, it won't need an external crappy power box, plus, the wireless on the 360 is so crappy, and the games are in HD, but still, no good games as far as I am concerned. Nintendo Wii and PS3 for me, wee wee! I'm not Canadian, but wee wee sure sounds good with a Nintendo Wii, especialy PS3! It all won't matter anyway, because I'll be living in a dorm where I won't have time for any video games ever again until Q3 2007! SO go take your Xbox 360, throw it off a cliff, or sell it, at, oh lets say GameStop, and get your PS3 for less thanks to the sale of your 360 piece of poo!

Here is a list of future immediate PS3 failures in my mind:

1. Hardware failures
2. Disc Read Errors
3. Lagginess to the point where your blind
4. Terrible sound quality that makes your ears bleed.
5. Car bombings
6. Radiation Explosions
7. Stupid games that cause mental retardation to 100 million potential PS3 buyers.

Sony fanboys were laughing at MS fanboys when the original Xbox was bigger than the PS2...now they are sayign it is better to have a bigger machine...the bloody hipocrits!!! (sp?)

Heh, so the 360 costs £280 for the PREMIUM version and the games are £50, then the PS3 costs what? £420, and the game's are still £50.

Who, at launch, could afford to buy the console for £420, then 2 games aswell. And you'd prob need some accesories. £520+ you are looking at. They better hope there version of LIVE is free.

or tha ps3 comes in a bundle with some games and acsesories..lol

Yup. Bundles never really save you much money. They always seem good at first sight, but that's about it.
