PS3 Region Free?!?!

I have hear rumors that they have made PS3 region free so when can import game from other countries and get them for cheap which will dent xbox 360 soo bad!

the console is but the games may not be, i think the 360 is the same

Yip but I wouldnt risk £400 or whatever to import a console. I would rather physically buy the console over the counter if you get me. Much safer in my opinion. Dont get me wrong it will work 90% but that 10 is what worries me

It'll be up to game publishers to get PAL and NTSC on the same disc. But either way, it wouldn't dent the 360 that bad. How many of you with PS2s would want games that aren't translated into English? Would you really want to buy a game from Hong Kong if it meant Final Fantasy's in Japanese?

It would work with some titles. I played through the Japanese version of Resident Evil Code Veronica on the Dreamcast with no problems.

Certain games on the 360 have no region lock out so I dont see it as a major plus point for a PS3.

Well, some non-English foreign titles end up working out fine with 360 games, as has been pointed out with another thread. But I still don't see it as the main source of games for American PS3 consoles.
