Default Capturing 360 footage.

Now then, I wanna capture my clubs FIFA games, and get them on my laptop.

I've been reading up on it but it's all wayyyyyyyy to confusing, with no noob guides.

Just wondering if anyone knows how to do it really, and can explain it pretty simply?

I've got a 360, obviously, a HDTV (Sony Bravia), and a laptop, obviously.

Ta very much.

You'll need:

1: USB Capture Card to plug in to the laptop like this one
2: Windows Movie Maker ( comes with Win XP ) or other suitable capture software
3: Xbox360 composite cable and xbox360 vid output set to standard definition - you'll struggle capturing via HDMI because of the copy protection enforced by DHCP, besides HD capture takes way more processor power and disk space

Plug in capture card
Plug composite cable ( the yellow, red and white connectors ) in to the capture card and Xbox360
Start Movie Maker and select the capture card as the video source
Start playing xbox360 game
Start recording on movie maker

The only difficulty is the size of the capture window, but you could always get a cable splitter so you can send video to your TV at the same time, like this one. In fact just looking at that Amazon page the "Frequently Bought Together" has everything you'd need on the capture side in one handy package.

Or if you have a DVD recorder you can record it through that then rip the DVDs to your laptop.

I don't have a DVD Recorder, Phat.

And Marty, what do you mean the size of the capture window? And sending video to my TV at the same time? I was planning on making a complilation of our goals in Windows Movie Maker and then editing it to a video for YouTube. Nothing special like.

Also, when I am recording, will it lag my game, do you know?

Thanks for your help aswell, just what I was looking for, and £11, bargain!!

Surely if its just goals cant you just upload them from the game itself. Granted it would take a while but still.

No you can't upload/save goals that are scored online, unfortunately.

I wanna get all the good build-up play and other bits aswell though.

If you just have the leads running to the laptop, the capture window in Movie Maker will be tiny, making it all but impossible to play the game - you won't have any video on the TV as the only output from the Xbox will be into the laptop.

Using a splitter means you can have the picture captured on the laptop and see it on the TV at the same time, but you will need the splitter I linked.

I'm not massively familiar with FIFA, so if you can replay the entire match after the game it might not be an issue. Play the game first on the TV then run the leads to the laptop afterward for capturing on the replay.

Capturing won't produce any lag, and if you're just uploading to YouTube that key shouldn't give you any quality issues.

Right that's perfect mate, thanks very much. Think i'll go for that kit that you posted on Amazon.

You can't replay the full match afterwards, so i'll just capture whilst we're playing, then can edit out all the boring bits.

All my stuff came this morning. Nice and quick delivery.

I really don't understand how to set up the wires though. Confusing.

Sorry for been an amateur, Marty, don't suppose you could shed any light on it though?

I've just got a bog-standard 360->HDTV setup.

You'll need the bog standard Standard Def cable that came with the Xbox360, the one with the Red/White (audio) and Yellow (video) phono connectors - this is a COMPOSITE cable (where the colors and luminance are all in the same video output signal - and the reason the quality isn't particularly good).

Your TV should have this connector on the back/side/front, most sets do and will be coloured Yellow / Red / White and listed as "VIDEO IN" or "COMPOSITE" - the Xbox360 should detect you're connected via this cable and adjust its output accordingly, if not you'll have to change it whilst connected in the HDTV mode.

The original cable catered for both HDTV and composite (this one). See the yellow / red / white on the right - those are the outputs you need.

If you're using this cable rather than HDMI, you'll have it plugged into the COMPONENT input on your TV (where the three different colour channels are split up) - the one with Red/Green/Blue (video) and Red/White (audio) connectors. There's a little switch on the the lead that changes it from TV/HDTV modes - you can see that marked on the plastic bit on the far right in the above pic - make sure this is set to the TV position.

Pic of the back of the Bravia showing COMPOSITE on the left and COMPONENT on the right: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink

Connect the red/white cable to the corresponding sockets on capture device

Use the Y splitter to split the yellow cable - run one to the capture device and one to the COMPOSITE connector on the TV.

Assuming you've got all the settings right, and you've set the TV to the right AV channel, you should see a far fuzzier picture than you'll of had with the HDTV setup
