Unhappy What's happened to the Monster community recently?

When I first started using this site I was pleased to find it didn't have the usual abusive idiots and fanboy posters that you find on most gaming sites but has anyone else noticed a change over the last couple of weeks? The comment sections on most articles seem to have been invaded by morons (with iphones?) who just can't seem to write a comment without insulting a fellow poster (and throwing in a few F@#K's to thier comments just to prove how hard they are!). I can go to the Eurogamer comments sections for insults/fanboy crap. Looks like Console Monster could be on a slippery slope and lose it's friendly community vibe (yes we all have a bit of banter but nothing nasty) which would be a shame!

It is ashame you feel that way. I think most websites that have comments, have fanboys and flaming. I've never been on a site where it doesn't happen.

The Console Guide for the iPhone allows anyone to comment, whereas the normal website doesn't. It's been quite popular since it came into play a fortnight or so ago, but yes some comments are fanboy ones.

The positives I guess are bigger popularity, but with that comes the fanboys.

It's not so much fanboy comments but all the abusive stuff of people hiding behind an internet connection, how many times do we have to hear that something is "gay" or "suck my d*** motherf***er" , usual american teeny trashtalk. Very annoying!

While I agree its annoying to see childish comments come up, its nice to see the comments area more active.

Every cloud and whatnot.

I tend to read the comments section and you generally can tell who are the ones with valid inputs and the ones who sound like total buffoons. It is annoying that people spout such nonsense but it's their view and it's what the comments section is for. I ignore most of the fanboyism anyway as it's totally pointless in my eyes.

Its the 'noise' of the internet unfortunately. There is a bad side to everything. Like someone said, on XBL it seems to be the standard. I'm even tempted to get a PC again and play CoD with a clan due to the continuous sh1te that I have to put up with on XBL.

Is there a way to silence the all voice comms without loosing sound from the game?

On the scoreboard you just highlight the person and press X, it mutes them.

^ yeah I do that, but I wondered if there was a setting that could be used that would automagically do that.

I'm no "noob" on the internet or Xbox Live and understand this is how cetain people feel the need to behave. The point I was making was that Console Monster always seemed to be free of the usual idiots which was pretty refreshing. I know it's good for the site to get more visitors and comments but I don't understand why people post when they have nothing worth saying?

Sadly it is just one of those things. It's a shame there is not a way to bump up to the good posts and minus the bad ones

It was always going to be a risk to add anonymous anti-login access to our comments. Before they are not the most active of features on our articles so we thought we'd switch it on for our Console Guide users to flock to, and it has worked a treat! all but with the usual insults and flames here and there, some you just have to laugh at, and brush off.

As many have said above, you just have to take the rough with the smooth with things like this really. It's easier to give jib to others when you dont have to signup and THEN post a comment.

This is something we wanted to try out. Bear in mind what it might be like it we did it on the web side too, and not just through the iphone/ipod - Yikes!

We might add in some function to rate comments in future so the nasty ones get out voided and perhaps not show or just get dim.

Something like the Engadget/Joystiq system? That'd be great.

You might want to think about doing that soon - the IQ level in the comments seems to be rapidly dropping, and I'm finding it difficult not to bite (and explain the difference between there, their and they're)

The forum is different for everyone.

Some people just read the forums and barely post, but are still logged in
Some people come to the forum to ask questions but rarely post elsewhere
Some people trawl the forums
and some people just do what they feel like (in a good way of course)
