Default My kneejerk to Nintendo at DICE

Here's something I found.
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/reggie/...alk-153915.php
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/aei/200...dos_reggi.html

From Kotaku:
"Reggie cited a Piper Jaffray study that showed 75% of high school students have shown diminished interest in video games. He then outlined his five resolutions on what game developers need to do to keep people interested."

Can I just say that Fils-Aime is completely misconstruing the relevance of this survey? And that I'm pretty sure I'll be far more interested in the exclusive 360 games than the exclusive Revolutions..

I mean, the survey says "75 percent of teens say their interest in video games is declining and 78 percent indicated they spent less time playing in 2005." That means nothing, especially if the question is so open-ended. I mean, I could answer a question like thinking about comparing my current interest in gaming to when I was in 3rd grade.. I don't know, willing to stand around waiting my turn on an arcade, or my turn on a console controller, forever. Or even, jeez, not finding it at all uncommon for a classmate to have a game character backpack. Would I have said that as a high school senior? No. Will I see the Halo movie? Sure, but I don't use Master Chief stationary. This survery isn't even longitudinal, and it's not a repeated cross section. He's making it sound like this study indicates the market's shrinking.

The "Piper Jaffray Completes 10th Bi-Annual 'Taking Stock With Teens' National Study of Teen Shopping Behavior and Brand Preferences" found here

Im afaid to admit whats MICROSOFTS biggest game. Will be HALO 3
Nintys biggest game ZELDA TWIGHLIGHT PRINCESS

I would go for ZELDA and probably the exclusives but its games like GHOST RECON GTA and XBOX LIVE that swayed me to 360.

(still dont have live though)

You mean where was I?...eh...canoeing.

Twilight Princess is a Cube game, innit?

GTA's almost a PS3-exclusive title, it'll be a while before the 360 has a next-gen GTA.

nintendo will always sell their mario games and others they make, i think they should make games from new idears its al good and well making a 2nd and 3rd game and so on but only making sequels is whats not getting a broader range of people interested. im no expert so put me right if it isnt true.

Nope, you're correct. They do need to expand the types of games they release. Fortunately, though, the DS and Revolution are the perfect types of systems to achieve this, as both of them allow ideas to be implemented which have never before been seen in gaming. The Revolution especially. The potential for loads of new and innovative is excellent. And I really can't wait for it.

Any sequel or franchise continuation on the Revolution will seem like a brand new experience, if the controller's done right.

Which it will be. Because when Nintendo need something to work for them (which this really does), then they'll make it work.

I personally can't wait for a Resident Evil, in which you use the remote to move, and then that analogue stick to shine a torch around, trying to find enemies. You know they're there, but you don't know where... tension and fear increases by 1000%. I'd love it.

Yeah, people just like to moan about things. I really can't wait for the Revolution, because it's just going to be so damn good. The people who criticised it are probably the people who criticised the DS, and look what a success it has been.

I'm 100% buying a Revolution, and whilst the 360 probably will remain my platform of choice (I'll buy all the multi-format games on it, for instance), I still think the Revolution will be top notch.

And Goldeneye might not even be available for download as it's made by Rare and there's a chance the games will be Nintendo-produced ones only.

I'm still going to find a lot to download, though. I just hope it's free/there's not much of a cost.

It's more than just N64 games on there, though. NES, SNES and Gamecube games as well, and supposedly the prices could vary depending on the format.

NES and SNES games a couple of quid, for example, N64 games about £5, and Gamecube about £10.

The free download of a certain amount would be nice as well, because I'd definitely make as much use of it as possible.

Also, on the Rare front... well, they're now owned by Microsoft, so I wouldn't bet on their games featuring.

Yeah I new that but because you said GOLDENEYE I was talking about N64. I wasnt too bothered about NES and their are only a few SNES games but because it can play GC disc I will keep WIND WAKER and the likes but I will have to download the N64 games

Heh, I've still got my N64, but I'm going to end up downloading games anyway.

I'll probably start off by just getting games I never owned, like Pilotwings 64, Smash Brothers, etc, but I'll probably end up just getting Mario Kart and stuff for the sake of it anyway.

Pilotwings 64, aaahhh, now there was a great game. Soooo relaxing. Id love to download the old Super Marios and Majoras Mask, a game I never played, much to my shame. I LOVED Ocarina of Time!

I was exactly the same. Ocarina of Time was amazing, but I never got round to even playing Majora's Mask, let alone buying it.

Same with Banjo Tooie. I loved the original, but never even played the sequel.

Yep! I recently gave my N64 away, along with the games to my girlfriends nephew (well, she gave it to him!). Banjo was one of the games and when we set it up we had a couple of hours playing that! Quality.

Never got BANJO TOOIE(as much as I wanted to) as I loved the first as well.

But I did get MAJORAS MASK and was very complicated and challenging. You had to keep going back in time every 3 days.If you didnt you lost EVERYTHING

If you still have your CUBE which I imagine you do, theres a limited edition ZELDA disc with
ZELDA NES
ZELDA SNES
ZELDA Ocarina of TIME
ZELDA Majoras Mask
and
A video looking at every ZELDA

You can pick it up of EBAY for about £10 or £20

You mean where was I?...eh...canoeing.
