Fired PS3 Dev Learns Lesson

Even their own guys think it sucks.

Josh Robinson, a former 3D artist with Sony Online Entertainment, tells PS3Week how his insinuations that the "Xbox 360 is better" got him fired.

In early January, Robinson painted a pretty ugly picture of the PS3 and its development processes on his blog. He wrote in a post, which has since been removed, "I’ve also talked with people on the technical side of the Xbox 360. The consistent comment I am hearing from people on my end is, 'The Xbox 360 is better'. They are saying that it is capable of just doing more." He added, "You could always tell where the PS3 dev box was because it’s the room that had the F-bomb coming out of it half the day."

Website PS3Week tracked down Robinson, who has since been fired by Sony, about how the comments got out of hand, ultimately leading to his dismissal.

"I can’t believe how out of control everything got," he said. "It’s absolutely absurd how the Internet can take something relatively harmless and turn it into something so insane... Did I knowingly break NDA? I absolutely did not. I would never do that and I would never want to hurt Sony Online. Did I dance in the grey area by even opening my mouth? Yes I did and I was fired for it. So I guess the new rule for me is, don’t ever say anything at all about anything. Ever...ever."

Haha, well, at least he's correct.

Im not so sure. The thing may be a bit crappy to write games for, but I still think it will be the major player in the 'next gen wars'. I love my 360, its awesome and probably wont be getting a PS3, but the brand name alone will shift loads and loads of consoles. People are so predictable sometimes!

If people had a look at the technical side of the 2 consoles they would discover that the 360 has far greater capabilities than the PS3. But a lot of people only know that they have a PS2 and will think its(ps3) better so may as well buy the PS3 instead of balancing the 2 out. I did and the 360 won

The PS3, even if it is utter horse manure, will still sell by the boxload, because Sony will work their usual advertising magic, and suddenly every 5-year-old kid in the UK will have one.

That's the advantage they've managed to build up for themselves. Despite crappy consoles, they've built an absolutely huge market share on campaigning power alone. Which sucks.
