Well it shouldn't mess his Xbox up but he could well end up getting banned, also if he gets a fault then he may have issues getting it repaired/replaced....but you weigh that all up against cheaper games I guess.

Don't know if they can detect a modded console itself but if you have dodgy games they can pick up on it. You can get the console banned and possibly the gamertag (which I believe loses all your MS Points, DLC and XBLA games)...but the gamertag ban may only be for playing games early.

I have never actually heard of them banning a gamertag except for abuse issues over live. They can and will ban a console though. You can still play games but you can no longer access any live content.

Gamertag bans happened a few weeks back after people were playing Forza 3 early, but you're right its always been a console ban apart from that.

Playing ODST early also got gamertags banned, people will also get GT bans for playing the leaked MW2 too.

I was under the assumption they banned the console from connecting to Xbox Live, a friend of mine had this done to him by Microsoft for playing "dodgy" games. Whether they detected because of the games or because it was flashed I don't know. Personally I wouldn't say it's worth the hassle, in the end you just play crap games because they are free and miss out the good times you could have on the great games.

Flashing is bad.....can lead to a criminal record, fines or at worst a sentence. But if you must do it - then avoid kids
