The 80GB PS3 was hinted at here a little while back but it’s now confirmed – not for us, but for those lucky Koreans.

The news popped up on the radar after the 80GB version appeared on the Sony Korea Web site and has since been confirmed by Sony spokespeople. It will be priced at £281 – which is enough to make us choke with envy already. According to Sony, only the 80GB version will go on sale there – not the elusive e 20GB nor the 60GB versions. A spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz:

“At this moment in time, there are no plans to introduce the 80GB version of PlayStation 3 in Europe. The chassis of the 80GB Korean PlayStation 3 is identical to the chassis of the European version. The only exception is the larger hard drive.â€

Jealous? I suppose it's a mute point really considering the Playstation 3 Hard Drive is upgradeable.

Exactly - they received the extra size as a thankyou for waiting for them to be released over there.

But as you said you just open the side of the ps3, remove the HDD and slot in a suitable replacement. Currently there are people with 500GB 2.5'' SATA HDD Drives in their PS3's - 60 is more than enough for me (at this moment in time) but i can upgrade it to 120 for £60...not bad and replacing it doesn't viod the warranty.

I've got a question about that, when you replace the hard drive, I assume you have to format it, correct? If so how long does that all take...Just for curiosity.

Well my first tip would be where Rubber Gloves, then depending on how moist it was Toilet Paper or Plastic Bag.

I think you've got the wrong thread as well. Hope that helps.

Within system settings you can copy so much to the ps3 (ie gamesaves, downloads where possible - system updates if you have room if not download them again) when you replace or upgrade your HDD. The 5GB taken from the initial 60 is what this is for.
