Hi all,

Thought this would be the best place to ask this question. Its not for myself, as I have a HDMI connection on my TV. But my friend is struggling to find out how to connect his ps3 to his HD TV. Because he does not have a HDMI connection, his only option would be using a HDMI to DVI adapter. But my question is:.

1.) Does anyone run this configuration (HDMI to DVI adapter)?, if so how is the sound connected or does the sound output threw the adapter?. Because With HDMI sound and Screen are output threw the one lead.
2.) If youre running this configuration, what it the picture quality / screen sizing like?.

This is a link to a picture showing the connections on the back of the TV. Which is a Philips 23PF4321 23" HDTV

Many Thanks in advance.

It will work fine as long as the DVI connection is HDCP compatable. Sound would have to be run seperately, most likely through the optical out to a hi-fi or home cinema.

Quality should be about the same as HDMI.

EDIT: Another solution for the sound would be to connect a composite cable also into the console and use the 2 audio RCA leads and put them into a 2 phono to 3.5mm jack converter, which would then be put into the DVI audio input. I'm not sure if both a Composite and HDMI cable can be connected at the same time though.

EDIT 2: It appears my second suggestion would work.

So basically you need to get a HDMI to DVI adaptor and connect that to your TV, then also have the composiite cable in and put the red and white leads into one of these:

Then connect that to the port on the TV marked "DVI AUDIO IN" and walla.

Well i tried this way to connect - though i used an HDMI to DVI cable and it didnt work as my old plasma was not HDCP compliant.

Make sure that TV is and your mate should have no porblems with getting a picture - as HDMI and DVI are the same, but DVI carries no sound. There are many ways you can get sound, the cheapest being using the AV cables provided (you just need to set picture to HDMI and sound as AV).

So top and bottom of it picture will be the same as HDMI just sound wont.
