OK earlier today my brother ran in the house screaming! He had found something in his tool shed. I looked like a miniature bee hive. I unwrapped the cocoon like thingymabobby and inside was like a honey comb thingymabobby. I have no clue what it is. All I know is that when I knocked it down a GIANT fly type creature flew out and at me. It wasn't a wasp.

Just looks like a normal beehive to me. The larger one just may have been the Queen.

edit/ im probably wrong as of course that also looks similar to a Beehive but I still think by description and vid its a Hornets nest

the thing about Hornets are thy're vicious ----ers I should know me and friend manage to piss some off a couple years back, Bees are generally more placid so if theres no sign of any backlash of miniature flying creatures (after ripping down their home) then its bees

I got stung 4 times by Hornets and my friend got stung 9 times...

don't ever piss Hornets off, they are so painful :p

and if its definetly not Bees than its guaranteed to be Hornets...

and did you actually see one of 'em, cause Hornets look basically like Wasps (slightly different colour pattern but you get the picture) but BIGGER!

if it doesnt look like a Wasp or Bee then ---- knows what you got :D

Good thing you guys caught it early. A well-developed nest with lots of workers and drones will ---- you up. Kill that ---- and make sure the queen has nothing to return to- though she's probably found another place to nest already.

It's dead. The rain drown them too. That little ball was all that was in the cocoon. Hornets are bad then yer?

They are dangerous simply because they swarm so quickly

like with me and a friend the Hive I doubt reached 50 even 30 and yet that small amount managed to en-circle us with such speed I mean talk about panic :s

in essence we are lucky because European Hornets are in fact some of the least dangerous in the Hornet species

and one of the worst things you can do with a Hornet is in fact kill it (Larvae it doesnt matter you can kill them with no backlash) If you kill a Hornet (within say 20 yards of the nest) then its bros. and sisters will come at you quicker than you can say 'bobs your uncle '

I have/had a hornets nest in my attic(SP), during summer i have a tennis racket because they all seem to come out and fly around my room.

And yeah... they're huge!

The best series was the one with the building and elevator... I don't remember much else of it.

I realised why I thought of it. One series had a giant hornet and it made a strange sound. I think it freaked me out.
