i was too young when it came out and never owned one or want to but... with dark zero on xbox360 i am getting intrested............. any one enlighten me?
Had some of the greatest multiplayer games ever made, an innovative controller and no load times due to it still using cartridges. Still one of my favourite consoles, games like:
Mario 64
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (pure genius)
Goldeneye
Mario Kart
Perfect Dark
Donkey Kong 64

The N64 is still my favourite console ever. As Benj has said, it was utterly fantastic for multiplayer, but had some relatively long-lasting single-player titles as well, such as Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. I wouldn't recommend it if you're only going to be playing on your own, but if you can get a few controllers and get some mates round, you'll love it. I still play the N64 quite regularly, and I don't think there's ever going to be a better console for sheer gaming enjoyment.
Single player games you should get hold of:
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Probably the single greatest game ever, and if there's one N64 game you should get, this is it.
Super Mario 64 - Difficult to really describe just how good this actually is. But trust me, it is excellent.
Banjo Kazooie - Pretty much the same as above. Genius from Rareware.
Jet Force Gemini - Highly under-rated, but yet another great game from Rare.
Conker's Bad Fur Day - Third Rare game in a row - hilarious, and a damn good adventure game too. The fact that it has a boss called the "Great Mighty Poo" which has to be defeated with bogroll should be enough to sell you this game. :D
Multiplayer games you should get hold of:
Mario Kart 64 - In my opinion, the most enjoyable racing game ever created. Endless hours of fun in multiplayer.
Goldeneye - Dearie me, I really don't know where I'd be without Goldeneye. Hundreds of hours wasted in the Temple, Complex, Facility and Stack. And don't you dare try and tell me I wasted my time. :D
ISS98 - Probably my most-played football game ever. It feels really old in comparison to Pro Evolution Soccer titles these days, but back in the day it was wonderful.
WWF No Mercy - Best wrestling game ever. Period.
Perfect Dark - Like Goldeneye, but with bots, and better levels.
Diddy Kong Racing - Like Mario Kart, but with Rare characters and a much better single-player mode.
Smash Brothers - Screw Tekken and DOA, this is a beat-'em-up.
Mario Party 2 - They've kind of ruined this series (I think they're on the 7th edition now), but back when MP2 was around, it was the best party game on the console. Strictly multiplay only, though.
I'm sure there's plenty more, but I think I've listed enough for just now. :D

Lylat Wars
Bomberman
Banjo Tooie

Lylat Wars!
Can't believe I missed that out.
The only flaw was that you had to play through the game in one sitting. There were no save points. :D

Yep, the N64 is amazing!
Absolutely love it, some of the best games ever are on the N64! Check out my more-or-less complete games from the link in my sig. Need to dig out the games from the back of a cupboard one day to check what I've missed out!

This is NINTYs cjance to exploit the DS market. I would buy almost all of these if they came out on the DS and even sequels or 2 oldies on a card as they can fit.
I would LOVE to see this happen.

IMO, the best console in history...The best games ever, which we can only dream of them re-releasing on the 360! Especially Super Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64 (Not forgetting Goldeneye of course) it was just top notch.
It had quality graphics for the time aswell.
:)
WWF No Mercy is the best wrestling game I have EVER played. (I have played alot of wrestiling ame to)

Yeah, I forgot to mention the controller, Thornbag.
Personally, I found it perfect. It was ideally suited for Goldeneye due to that trigger, and despite having 3 handles, it was and still is the ideal controller.
The Gamecube one was comfier, but for button layout and general ease of use the N64 one kicks ass.

It really is amazing. I can't really explain why, but there's just something so incredible about it.
I mean, it's slow, the graphics are pretty poor, and the story mode wasn't great... but for some reason, I just loved it. It just feels right.
*shrug*
I love it.

I thought the controller was great...at the time...I picked it up a cuouple of weeks ago and oh no. It wasnt like the memories I had of my first game of SM 64.
DIDDY KONG RACING NO #1
RACING GAME FOR 64 (Y)

Nah, Mario Kart 64 was better. :)
Diddy Kong Racing was enjoyable in multiplayer, and had a good single player adventure mode, but it controlled too weirdly. Mario Kart felt perfect.

Sorry but I had both and DIDDY was much more enjoyable.
You got much more out of DIDDY for your £30 MARIO KART was far far too easy

The single-player was pretty poor, yeah, but I think multiplayer more than made up for it. The courses were better than DKR's courses, and battle arenas were good as well.

the controller looks godd kindoff :|
and well the games will be downloadable on revolotion s wire less live mode

They will be, but you're as well just getting the console itself, because downloading N64 games on the Revolution is going to cost you about the same as it would to get an N64 nowadays anyway.
Rumoured prices range from $10-20, which is £6-12 anyway. You can get some N64 games for cheaper than that in second hand places like Gamestation or on eBay.

I could easily list 30 games I would download and 50 games I would consider downloading.
No one can deny it. It has some of the finest games out.
AfroJoe
17/Jan/06, 05:50 PM
Definitely.
If I didn't have the 15-odd titles that I do have, I'd definitely download all of them, as well as plenty more that I never had the cash for at the time.

I think if they took the points system like Microsoft do with the 360 that would work(I mean for buying games) but where will they be stored???
AfroJoe
17/Jan/06, 07:12 PM
Heh, good point actually.
Nintendo are going to have to include some kind of built-in hard-drive. Either that, or their memory cards are going to have to be pretty damn big.

256Mb a N64 game andf I think its about 512RAM or DRAM.
BTW did anyone use the NINTY STAR SYSTEM. You got 250 when you bought a first party game, maybe you can use them as I had about 10 000(dont ask where i got them:o

17/Jan/06, 07:51 PM
Where did you get them ;)
For the record....DKR > Mario Kart 64...in fact Snes MK > MK64.
MK64 lost a lot of teh fun elements that Snes MK had and DKR retained some of them imo.
Only thing that annoyed me about DKR is that I couldn't complete it...beating Wizpig the 2nd time, with the plane, is nigh on impossible! I gave up.

What when he flies around faster than a fast thing from fast land...CONCORDE!!!It was super hard
(Yeah I know concorde died)
Mario Kart 64 is the dogs. Great fun multiplayer.
Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Ouch, how many hours playing these games?!?
Any Rare game. Just class.
Ohh...Turok 1 or 2. A good single player and some funny multi games. 2nd one has you being humans or raptors. I used to scream at my mates when I would jump out. Really adds a spin on the usual FPS'er. Hopefully a sequal will appear on the 360 at some point :)
Diddy Kong Racing FTW!
mjmaskrey
17/Jan/06, 08:19 PM
Turok 2 multi was ok....not great. It was funny with the Raptors I must admit...even funnier was shooting people with arrows...you'd see people running about with loads of arrows sticking out their face!
:)

You're all DKR fanboys.
Booooooo!
Also, backin-strachan, I still have thousands of those points as well as I never bought anything with them. I'm guessing that they'll be deemed useless after a couple of years or something, though, or everyone's stats will get wiped before the launch of the Revolution.
Nah! DKR was a great game but we still played MK64 way more! Backwards Green Shells FTW!

Conker's Bad Fur Day!
I know it was quite highly rated, but it didn't sell too well, when it's really a fantastic game.
"I am the Great Mighty Poo, and I'm going to throw my [insert four-letter word which means "poo" :D] at you"
You used to have to collect money as well, and if there was money nearby, it'd shout to you "Oi, up 'ere, ya [insert word rhyming with "maggot"]!" in a Scouse accent. :D
Sorry, I'm probably being a bit explicit here, but to be honest it's hard not to when pointing out the good stuff in CBDF. I recommend this game A LOT.
Killer 57
10/Feb/06, 03:07 AM
They remade it on Xbox but with Live never played it.
AfroJoe
10/Feb/06, 03:33 AM
They didn't remake the whole game - they just took what was a fraction of the game (a small multiplayer FPS mini-game), and made it a whole game in itself.
Thus removing all the fun parts, like having to mount a giant dinosaur and get it to bite a huge caveman in the balls. Ah, memories.
I love the N64. It was the last of the no disk consoles and it was still a great console for fun. At one point I became so addicted to it that my parents took it away. I will list for you what I thought was the Top N64 games of all Time in my opinion.
1)Zelda: The Ocarina of Time- Personally like stated by afro Joe, the best game of all time. With over 12 different stages and probably a total of 100 levels and maybe over 500 objectives it is the ultimate game. There is probably over 100 different carachters and was similar to what World of Warcraft is now.
2)Zelda: The Majoras Mask: The sequel to the greatest game of all time. It is definatey up their in the ranks of the greatest games ever and if it werent for Ocarina of Time it might of been the greatest game ever. Explore through 4 different maps and worlds all in 3 days as you race the clock to save the world.
3)Mario 64- Perhaps the greatest Mario game ever. Collect stars, battle bosses, mini games everything you would expect from the ultimate Mario game. It takes advantage of the N64 analog joystick very well and has some of the best controls ever seen on a game.
4Paper Mario- When it first came out people did not take this game seriously but besides its odd looks and feel the game immerses you in different battle modes and maps. With a dozen of health items, 8 members of your crew to help you out and being able to see every Mario carachter in the universe in a different view, the game is overall a must buy.
5)Goldeneye-Besides Perfect Dark it is the only decent First Person Shooter and decent is a word that seriously under estimates it.
